Hi Everyone,
Many of you who frequent the diesel forums may remember Charles, a long time admin and a member of our Coastal Cruisers club www.coastalcruisers.ca
Charles passed away ten years ago and his truck remained in his family until 2 years ago when I acquired it. My plan was to 'repair it to factory' as it needed some work to get it more road worthy. I say 'more' in jest because Charle's son just drove it about a thousand miles from the Yukon with no charging system, questionable brakes and worn shocks. lol. These trucks are tough.
There are several threads on Mud from Charles describing all of his work on this truck in Guatemala and Africa, it transported the family all over the world for 35 years they owned it.
Here is the current specs
Later model 3BII NA diesel engine from a Hyno truck (installed in Africa) mated to a 5spd transmission. Rotary fuel pump.
Power steering and brakes
A/C
Headlight washers
Original interior
Body is the best I've seen. small bondo patch in rear driver's corner.
Body was brown, repainted blue many years ago
Frame is solid, only surface rust and lots of african red dirt stain (it's actually everywhere lol).
long range tank
possible rear locker but haven't opened up to see
Three VINS match the paperwork. Easy import to USA. This is originally a CDN truck.
Most of my work was to fix the electrical system which had decades of accessory wiring and old mystery components. It is returned to factory except that I put in a manual glow switch and disconnected the superglow for simplicity.
Newer alternator
New shocks and brake drums. Serviced all brakes,
Tires have great tread but are several years old now as it has seen few miles in the last decade
Factory am/fm radio
Period CB with 9' whip antenna
Winch is removed as motor was shot
Long range (100l?) fuel tank
Everything works except rear wiper switch I'm still troubleshooting. Rear squirter works. Motor works just not with the switch.
Good compression. Snorkel.
Throttle linkage isn't ideal and even though it works, could be improved. Max 55mph on the flats when I drove it last.
Could use two new batteries.
Runs, drives, steers, and stops
Asking $14kUSD
You can drive as-is, albeit slowly! But this truck really should be restored as it is a very complete with very little rust.
