Im definitely not a homophobic but these bearings came in suspicious packages. They had different tapers on the bearing seat and are thicker but everything went back together smoothly. Vietnam seems close enough to Japan right? FML thats what the cheap kit looks like. I bought a front axle service kit from trail gear 12 years ago and it had OEM bearings that came with it. SOB.

The knuckle bearings have a lower slope, that’s the way they are supposed to be. Not supposed to just stick a wheel bearing in there cause it fits. I can’t tell, is that pics of the wheel bearings then? I don’t recall the axle wheel bearing difference.

Its been a while since you've been into a yota knuckle eh? The wheel bearings are twice the size. They ain't cheap either, they don't come with the kit.

Actually I’ve done many. Since I’m tired of being thought I don’t know, I’ll not bother anymore here.

Koyo knuckle bearings are the way to go. Longest lasting I’ve found.

Some kits come with “off brand” bearings but I’ve had luck with timken, fag, sks…

Meh… keep’em lubed and torqued to spec and it’ll be fine.

Cruiser knuckle rebuild is the dirtiest job but a fresh font end sure feels nice.

I’m impressed at the pace of your progress.

Cheers

I didn't mean to offend. sorry!

Oh theres def half a tub of grease going in there. I have to disconnect the tie rod and check preload and torque spec before I go any further. But did you see the different taper from the koyo to fag in the picture above??

I’m pretty sure the OEM pinion bearings in mine are stock from a ‘77. They most likely have 240,000 miles on them. KOYO would likely last longer, but I’d not loose any sleep over it.

After a quick search I found FAG bearing have been around for over 100 years and are of excellent quality. The difference in angle from OEM isn’t ideal, but I’d expect they will last better than no name bearings that have the same angle.

Holy s***, you have mellowed in your old age.

My last few kits for tcases and knuckles have come from that online auto parts place in australia. Even with shipping the prices are pretty damn good.
Or were anyways. I'm sure they've all gone up by 30% in the last 6 months.

I paid attention to the brand name of the bearings just long enough to throw the wrappers in the garbage. :hillbilly:

My ghetto molsen canadian keg wood fired hot tub. Definitely ghetto in my driveway but its pretty nice for fall and spring time camping. I cut up pallets with my chainsaw. It takes 3 pallets and 6 hours to get toasty. Its lined with 2' rigid foam and a tarp.

That would be awesome for camping (fill at campsite of course; imagine towing that much water around... with a LC 😆).

I have driven half a km with the hot tub full. Lets just say it empties really fast. Theres roughly 1200 liters. So Im def maxing out my trailer axle.

It doesn’t take much imagination… I’ve towed over 4K lbs with mine. 1500-2000 I’d start to forget it was behind me.

I was about to buy a Honda water pump but cheeped out last minute thankfully. It only takes 2 people 3 mins w/5 gallon buckets at a boat launch to fill it.

So I ordered a rear sill plate and lower uprights for ambulance door jams from "real cruiser steel". Order confirmed but lead times are 3 weeks, its been 4 weeks now and Im getting inpatient. But i did some more cutting, I have to stop here before my roof n tub start doing funny things.

I also contemplated not repairing this back bumper cross member thingy, but Im running out of things I can do during crap weather, so I got all the rivets cut/drilled/oxy blasted them out.

Back bumper thingy actually looks like it’s not terrible shape. At least repairable? Tough to tell on a phone screen. I think 4wheel auto is selling Awl teqs rear bumper of yours is ****ed. Probably not cheap with the usual markup tho. Nice progress on your truck..

Well I have spent 2 hours with the oxy/propane torch and a sledge hammer to get it to look like this. Once its off I will post better picture of how bad it is. I will try my best to hulk it back to its close to original shape.

It was a good successful day at the office. I have eliminated the only rust on the frame. Assembly coming tomorrow. A little help from my kubota and alot of hammer time and I got the rear cross member straight enough for me. I found some 3/16" plate steel that had a perfect kink in it to match the gusset from toyota. I used the old one as a template and drilled all the wholes.

Any of you guys attempted riveting? Do you guys think I should go with carriage bolts or just grade 8 for re-assembly?
