You made the right decision...glad you're safe! I image the train horns unsettled them a little bit.

:eek::eek::eek: glad you're ok!
I f ing HATE criminals, (just go get a job already) It seems that when the economy is bad, there's more of this stuff happening. I just had a break in at my farm, and dirtbags hanging around almost every night.
X2 on keeping the holes, great conversation piece

Where's the sign up list for zombie hunting in Florida??? Seriously, glad you're ok and hope you find the parts to put the rig back together. Here's a link to some 3M window covering that's break resistant.

HOLY ***C !

I worry alot and one of the things on my mind is that we drive vechicles that are personalized and not hard to spot.

My greatest fear would be that one of those little cock suckers or one of their unsavory friends may come around again...

I dont have the self control to carry a weapon, even though I know better... I feel like I wouldnt make the right decision if given the opportunity and would just empty the clip.

Which I find slightly odd since I have enough control to ride a 180mph capable bike but ride within the limits of the law.

OK, here are some pix:

Not sure what it looks like on the inside, but I'm hoping we can save the door :hhmm:

Gunna be hard to find a matching shifter console and I guess I'll have to cover up the bruise on the dash cause I doubt they'll replace the whole thing :meh:

The white spots on the seats are sharp pieces of glass that got lodged into the leather :bang:

Howdy

Glad that you are OK! It's looking like is a 45, you so lucky! Buy a lottery ticket:D!
It's not looking so bad the damage in inside the cruiser, get some duct tape and cover the holes and you call good :hillbilly:.

I think you're GUNna need a gub, first, and parts later...

Bummer, I was hoping to hear the shots that were fired came from you! Very glad to hear you are ok, I understand it is "just a truck" but I would never let my ride go without a fight. I am always carrying.

i love arizona!! :D im glad ur ok tho bro! its like that here in LB too..

by the way how did u get that shifter on ur transfer case shifter?

Holy crap, glad to hear that you are ok. With the economy and our current society, anybody with a brain needs to be prevalent against thugs worldwide. Even if you had a CCW the ability to reach it in time would have been none, you did the best course of action in the time alotted which was probably less than a split second. Congrats on your high observance at such a late hour and your ability to tell the tale and keep on driving the TLC.

Agreed, and well said.

There would have been no time for that, what he did was the best move anyone in that situation could have done.

No doubt - I'm not anti-firearm, and I have no time for the preservation of whack-jobs, but how in the hell would you ever have time to draw and shoot at a scumbag who is already shooting at you? Unless you drive around with your gun on your lap you will never have time to draw and fire on someone who is already shooting at you and be ahead of the game.

I suppose you could gamble and hope that the guy is such a lousy shot that he'll continually miss, or drive off out of harm's way draw your weapon and come back to finish him off (good luck in "self defense" court with that one!), but for most of us what the OP did would ensure your greatest chance of survivability.

The carjacking whack-o that decides that he is going to shoot you, presumably with the intent to kill you, has most likely already decided (especially in concealed permit carrying locations) that he doesn't care whether or not you have a gun in the vehicle, because most of the time those who commit crimes like this, or more serious crimes, obviously don't have elevators that reach all floors.

South Orlando....my neck of the woods. I guess it wasnt a big enough story to make the local news....glad you are OK. I will do my darnest to stay away from Paramore and OBT in the dead of night. A CCW permit might give you a false sense of security as in this case it most likely would have been in a holster and unchambered and the amount of time that elapsed from the 1st guy to the 2nd shooter guy was probably only a few seconds- probably not enough time to get a shot off. You almost have to carry it chambered and on your lap when you travel on the wrong side of the tracks and be watching your surroundings constantly.

Actually, it did (along with other shootings that night)

Gun calls: Orlando cops stay busy with gun calls over weekend - OrlandoSentinel.com

Gunfire disrupted downtown Orlando the night before the start of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals, records show. It was one of 10 gun-related crimes over the weekend.

The shots exploded about 2:45 a.m. Sunday near the corner of Orange Avenue and Robinson Street as nightclubs shut down after last call and patrons filled the sidewalks, according to police reports.

"I ran out to Orange Ave and noticed a white Ford Crown Victoria making a right turn," an officer wrote. "I then noticed a bright muzzle flash from the roof area of the vehicle."

The driver, Alex Acevedo, 22, of Orlando, was stopped and arrested on charges of dangerous exhibition of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a stolen firearm, records show.

Other crimes included a home invasion, three armed robberies and three carjackings.

The driver of one of the vehicles foiled his carjacking at 3 a.m. Sunday in the city's SoDo section by speeding away from a red light at South Orange Avenue and Grant Street. Two men who tried to take his vehicle fired about 10 shots, striking the 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser three times, records show.

The crimes also targeted an Orlando police officer, who left an AR-15 assault rifle locked inside his patrol car parked overnight in an undisclosed neighborhood. Between 3:15 and 7:13 a.m. Friday, a burglar smashed the driver's window but was unable to remove the weapon from the vehicle's gun lock, records show.

Other crimes included a residential burglary in which a .45-caliber pistol was stolen. No one was injured in the armed robberies and other gun-related crimes.

What are the odds that the gun that was stolen in the burglary was the same one used to shoot up my rig? :o

glad to hear that you weren't injured

you just moved my "fix the door locks" repair up the list.
For some reason, while driving through Mexico City (perfect timing) my door locks decided that they won't stay locked if the car is running.

Now that I'm in CA, I wasn't thinking about it anymore.... until today. Seems like a good thing to address now. Of course, locked door vs. bullet is a no-contest. But at least having the doors locked would be a little bit better security.

Finally: for the folks who are using this as an opportunity to promote carrying a concealed weapon-- c'mon already. If he had a firearm in the vehicle, and had taken the time to find it and aim it, I'll bet that the situation would be far, far worse right now. Better to get the heck out of there.

Glad your ok, and good job laying on the skinny pedal, smart decision. Always run, chances are they won't shoot, and chances are that if they do shoot, they'll miss.

To me it looks like the LC did a fine job stopping the bullets. I take it the first round went through the PS window, he was going for your melon, and the next few hit the PS door. The one round was totally stopped by the door jamb. I've spent hours shooting up cars with every gun I've owned, and any gun I could borrow. These of course were junk vehicles, and I've learned a lot about ballistics. I'd say those bullets were stopped. I've shot rounds from a rifle, and had them go diagonally through a vehicle, passing through every panal, trunk, firewall, and seats, dash, with only a small hole. I've shot 22's and 38's into doors, and have them leave huge gapping holes, only to stop after going through the first panal.

How anyone could tell if its a 45 is beyond me, without actually seeing how big the fragments are. It looks like about 45 damage, bigger hole, ****py penetration, falls out of the truck when you open the door. But it could be a 40, 38, not a 9 mm, not a 454, not a smith and wesson 500 mag.

Damn, I thought I was the only one with a shot up LC, but mine has a 3FE

.

I'm glad you are ok.

But Instead of congratulating you for being do observant and just plain lucky, I have to ask what the hell was so important that you go out into an area full of people who are likely democrat voters at three am?

Very little good happens at three am unless you are in your own bed.

Stay away from stupid places and stupid people at stupid times

you should have waited till morning to get your laptop

I'm a bit of a night owl and rarely go to bed until 7am on weekends :meh:

Even though my insurance company is springing for a complete door, I'd much rather keep the original since it's VIN coded, so I had one of our guys start the bodywork this morning

Pretty easy fix, but the front run channel took a hit, so we'll have to straighten that out before the glass guy comes :meh:

I have a new shifter console on order and will be getting a complete wood trim kit from Superior Dash (Toyota's OEM supplier) :)

As for the bruise on the lower dash, they want a dash specialist to attempt a fix :hhmm:

If it's close enogh, I guess I could live with it cause I really don't want to tear that whole dash apart
