I knew you would go black, haha! Truck looks badass!

You know it!! Thanks bud!

I have been all over the HIH thread, but had to post in my build. This rig is making the trip to HIH8 this year! I'm all signed up and ready to roll.

Makes all the blood, sweat, tears, and dollars worth it. Still plenty of work to come, but I am just beside myself! Should be the trip of a lifetime.

Got my titanium reinforced key from @suprarx7nut this afternoon. This thing is BAD A**!! The color is super vibrant and the unit is incredibly sturdy. I started the truck earlier and it felt good just smashing the key in and cranking away no worries, tons of confidence. With the old key I was always just very gentle and deliberate for fear of breaking it. And I’ve got to tell you when I broke that case to remove the actual key itself it was shocking. I didn’t even use tools, I just broke it right off. But now I know I’ll never be stranded by a crappy key. Great product!! Pics below.

The only thing I need to figure out is my Nite Ize S-Biner key ring doesn’t sit perfectly in the ring on the titanium plate on the key. I rigged the provided clip to work for now but I think I can grind some material from my key ring so that the key itself can move around fully. Hard to explain hopefully the pics clarify.

Side note, I highly recommend this key ring. I had one with plastic caribiners that broke after 2 years, but this stainless one is rock solid and has retainers that prevent the clips from opening and letting your keys loose.

Also For your research, @suprarx7nut , i had the cheapo amazon key and it was the “T” style, I know some have been the “I” shape. Either way worked like a charm!

The more I play with it this may actually be ok.

Inspired by @DirtDawg I pulled my roof rack and I’m actually super happy with it! You can see my matte black Toyota emblem here too, which turned out great.

Im sure its pretty straight forward but Im about to remove my emblems and sand and so forth and curious on the front emblem... is it just like the back as far as heating up a little and pulling off with dentil floss or fishing line?

the front emblem has 3 Phillips screws coming from the back. 1 at the very bottom and 2 on the outer edge of the “T” of the logo if that makes sense.

You need a really stubby screwdriver or a screwdriver bit for a ratchet cause there’s not a lot of room between the grille and radiator. Otherwise the whole grille is coming off.

Oh and 1 of mine was completely broken off, and one of the other two is badly cracked. So I’m essentially down to one solid screw so I may buy some emblem adhesive for it.

Go pokes! Love the build process :) Like to see these detailed builds. I take pics but am lazy, need to update my thread :)

Wow there's more of us Pokes on here than I expected! Big win last night over Stanford. Wished I was back in GIA for that one

HUGE news for the build today. Spoke with White Knuckle Off Road today, and I should be expecting a set of sliders on my doorstep in 4-6 weeks :bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2: I went with a bare finish and DOM tubing. I will be Rattle-canning them for ease if touch up if I need it. So excited to get them installed and hit the trails worry-free!!

Oh wow I totally forgot to show off my fancy steering wheel. I am very impressed with the quality. The color is obviously a little off, but I think a quick dye will make it perfect. Even still its not awful The feel and quality is 10/10 and 3 day shipping from taiwan is obscene! I love how the fake wood feels in my palm. And the little paddles at 10 & 2 are absolutely amazing.

You have a contact for this or a link I can’t find it??

Wow I just got on eBay to get you a link and the one I bought for $200 isn’t up any more. Maybe they are between stock?? Weird.

If you want to keep an eye out, just search “98-02 land cruiser steering wheel” on eBay. There is one on there that looks really nice but it’s $300 plus shipping.

Those weren’t what I bought but look similar. I think they are probably all the same from Taiwan.

Well I was headed to Austin for the day. I was driving along all was well and all of a sudden I had a plume of steam coming over my hood. Looked exactly like when your heater t’s let go. Mine didn’t but I definitely lost my radiator. I was able to get the truck towed to a dealer in Temple but they can’t get the parts until Monday. Luckily my mom was free and did me a huge favor by picking me up.

I have to drive back down 3 hours again Monday to pick it up. I’m getting hosed in parts and labor on this but a tow home 180 miles costs a lot more....stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I’d be lying if I said this didn’t shake a little of my faith in the cruiser.. at least this didn’t happen on the way to HIH or something that would be much worse.

It's better to have this happen way before HIH than on the way. You have done enough preventative/baseline stuff, I wouldn't worry too much the rest of it. Plus you have THE MAN @DirtDawg there to help! I wish he has closer than 4-5 hours away from me! Can you list what fluids you used in your baseline?

Nice truck BTW!

Thanks. I’m trying to tell myself the same. Glad this didn’t happen in rural NM on the way to HIH. @DirtDawg is not only a great resource he’s one of my best friends in the world, awesome dude. Thanks for the compliment on the truck!

I did amsoil Engine oil, front and rear diff gear oil, t case gear oil, and trans fluid (also did new trans fluid in the power steering system). All synthetic everything. He can chime in on specific weights and such to be honest I don’t know. I believe the engine oil was the suggested 5w30, and we used the signature series ATF in the trans and just the standard ATF in the PS system.

It’s just a bummer that I’ve put my hands on almost everything on this truck already and the one thing I didn’t suspect went on me! Such is life. Trying to stay cool about it. Preciate the support!

I was in Temple the tow to Austin was outrageous so I just took it to the local dealer...figured it’s hard to blow a rad install. We shall see!
