1983 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 195k miles. A very stout machine with the Trollhole car. The engine runs and pulls beautifully. 4-speed shifts great. The floor is sprayed with bed liner so washing out is a breeze. It has a nice head unit could use new speakers and the interior is decent for its age. Steering is sloppy but definitely manageable. The springs are worn out and the shocks are new Ranchos but didn't ship with the proper bushings. So suspension work could be done. The frame is straight and rust free, it looks like the hood and top core support bar have been replaced. The fenders are a little mangled but from the look of it, there was a shop that tried to straighten the front all out. So in the end, really only the fenders are bad. The rad support isn't perfect but it holds everything where it needs to be. 4wd works. I've also rebuilt the brakes rear brakes.

I just went through your steering nightmare thread... and your Aussie Locker removal thread.

You may want to check and see if those axles are from a FJ80. That may be the reason things didn't match up and you had to by some used parts.

If those axles are FJ80's, you may want to just swap out the axles you have for some stock FJ60 axles. That might solve all your problems.

Those are stock FJ60 axles, not 80 series. Easy to tell the difference if you give them even a cursory look.

You are right. It has the round axle tubes. What about the knuckles? Are there any interchangeable parts? I am not familiar with FJ60s or FJ80s. I have a FJ40.

seanolsen said he has had a nightmare working on them and I was trying to help him out.

Hey bud thanks for all the info! No I didn’t pay 10g. I paid 3200. Still too high but she had no rust and I wanted a project LC pronto. The s***ty thing about traveling across the cou try to buy a vehicle is that you loose a lot of bargaining power. Haha I guess I could have done better but the prices for those fj60s are shooting up.

I don’t think the fj80s have a solid front axle. It has to be a 60 or 62...I think. I took the rear locker out. **** that thing. I did ome suspension and total front end rebuild and the damn steering is still drifts. Must be the steering box. I just took her on a shakedown cruise to Maine. Going great so far but the smog pump pulley is knocking so that’s a worry. I changed both fenders and the core support and the heater core and rebuilt knuckles and fixed the horn..you pretty much spelled out what was needed. That’s why I laughed when I read your post....and had a small buyers remorse. The rig is really coming together now though. It’s frustrating to remove all the piecemeal stuff every time I get into something new but I think she’s dependable and solid now..so will see.

Do not have buyers remorse. You got a great FJ60 that is rust free and has a strong motor. As you work through fixing that list of things the value will only go up!! I regret that I didn't grab it when it was sitting at my house. Keep posting pics on your progress. I love seeing what you have done! Feel free to reach out me and the rest of the MUD community for help

PS... I believe the FJ80 was the last of the solid front axle Land Cruiser, but the axle shafts were more square, so it looks like you still have the original fj60 axles. I just remember HUK saying something about the knuckles being from an FJ80. I am not sure though. I didn't spend any time under the vehicle when it was here... and yes the steering box is shot. It will need a rebuild or a new one. I did try to tighten the gear screw and it made it better for about 5 mins.
