gauges

What's your plan for gauges? seems like there wont be much left working on the stock panel by the time I get done but I like the stock combi

Unless I've missed it but don't forget the 1hz hzj78 troopy and hzj79 ute ( post 1999) run the r151 gear box not the h55f , the hzj75 run the h55

Good call, so does that mean I just run perhaps a custom cross member or a cut down 60 series member? And there is no pad?

For gauges I am leaving my original ones alone, I scored a BJ42 tach, and then I am debating on swapping out my current gauges in my cluster or adding a second set off my Tuffy or heater. I am also without a turbo, so a pyro won't be necessary for a while. I have also thought about putting my gauges in the radio cut out because the radio will move to the Tuffy once its in. The one I don't like about that though is I have a FJ62 clock I planed on wiring up in the radio slot. Also, I might put an hour counter next to the clock If I did the heater it would look like this. I would go custom crossmember, but based on the 60 series isolator. Pretty easy to fab up, when you come get the EPC next week we can talk about it and look at things in the open.

We can talk gauges too while you're up.

Works for me.

Just use what ever mount is designed for what box you use and maybe use the designated cross member so the bolts line up and custom the ends of the cross member to suit chassis mountings

Sounds good. I am going by the junkyard later this week after finals and will grab one.

I also was able to compare the PS pumps out of a FZJ80 to a HZJ75. I did this because they are both gear driven, even though they share some of the same parts they aren't going to be able to swap in it appears. Time to find a 1HZ PS pump.

Ive been through many of the gauge set ups on the site but this is a little different and pretty cool

the yellow arent for me but the blue look cool and kinda retro

gps speedo solves tire size correction probs and I am going to look into it to see if they can do me a diesel specific set up with boost pyro etc

Are you going to get a custom cluster made up as well? I do like the idea of the gps odometer. I am curious though if I have to get a custom speedo cable if I could get a different gear on it to make it compensate for the larger tires? Just thinking out loud there. Or just leave it alone like I have been. Also I think I am going to run an hour counter.

On a different note should there be engine things I should be baselining while the engine is in the cradle? It will have a new set of filters, oil, belts but are there any other items. Should I replacing gaskets or seals. I would hate to stick the engine in and then have something go bad with it and have to pull it out. Plus, its nice working on it out of the vehicle.

As always thanks for the help and suggestions.

A final check over

well that is always the thing---how far to go?

maybe pilot bearing and look at the rear main seal

might be a good idea to look at scheduled maint in the manual to decide what all needs doing

hour meter is a good idea

I will probably make my own gauge housing out of aluminum and there is a guy her who does the vinyl overlays (like the camo kits for trucks and ATVs) and some of his interior work looks great with a lot of different colors and patterns so I might give that a go and let him cover it

nice

yes the K>A> stuff is nice

and you can have numerical readings instead of hi lo cold hot etc

mulling that over

and having a custom made "passenger eject" button to keep everyone in line might be handy----just thinking maybe "deploy cash" might be closer to the truth!

I can live with the speedometer being off here in the UK you only need to know 30, 60, and 70 for 99 percent of the driving and I can use my garmin GPS for speed correction----I was just thinking I would wind up with a whole combi with nothing working but the speedo but that mod job is a good option to keep the look---you got to love the combi dont ya?

the other option is good but maybe second choice IMHO

Exactly what I was thinking, and then the only non stock looking gauge would be the pyro which will come later, and that can sit next to my clock and hour counter. Nice, problem solved. Time to pull that junky radio out and start making some brackets!

Thanks for the manuals; time to find an owners manual.

Owners manual, or 1HZ manual? I've got one, it's too big to e-mail, but we can certainly put it on a CD for you tomorrow....

I just downloaded a February 1990 1HZ manual. Do you have a newer version?

I am looking for an owners manual, so I know when items are supposed to be serviced.

Yep. 2001. It's from a link Onur sent me--you might have the same somewhere.

Guys, I also have the 1HZ FSM but I would also like a copy of the Owners manual, and by that I mean what will most likely be the owners manual for HZJ7X that has the service schedule and record. If anyone has such an owner's manual I'd like a copy too :D:cheers:
