Took her for a nice drive around town today and on the dirt roads back.

On another note, the Dick Cepek 33 x 10.50s are impressively quiet tires. @wngrog, I think you'll be happy to know that I'm done with Swampers. Bias ply is just too much shakin' up here in the cold weather.

The only person that considers a Dick Cepek an upgrade is a Swamper driver!!

Please report to the 33” tire thread in the tire section with some specs sir.
Haha

Will do. These seem wider than any other 10.50s that I’ve run in the past. I’ll get some measurements posted up soon.

I had one of those evenings behind the wheel that are difficult to replicate. A beautiful Fall drive en route to meet my son and his Scout troop, deep in the National Forest. It was so incredibly peaceful. Zero traffic, a cold beer, and the mighty 2F purring with the heater on, just enough to keep the cool air at bay with the windows down.

I've got a few maintenance items I want to get done on this 40. Exhaust, knuckles, and the headliner at some point in the near future.

I did some research and found a really good old-school, family-owned muffler shop in Colorado Springs. I had them replace the entire exhaust, minus the manifold. Don did a great job routing it and even located me a cylindrical-style muffler. I had them route it outside of the skid plate, which will hopefully keep the floorboard from cooking my feet from this point forward.

Sounds/runs/drives much better.

While he got the 40 in shape, I walked downtown and hit a local taco joint. Really nice day.

Very nice! Be interested to see how you routed the exhaust outside the skid plate. Is it below the frame? Have headliner to do, as well, and have been putting it off. Not looking forward to that job.

I’m not looking forward to the headliner job either!

Yes, I had it run below the frame (oddly enough, I think this was the stock configuration). The skid plate bolts are still easily accessible, despite how the picture looks.

My '76 had that same routing (under)...always found it odd, as it hangs pretty darn low for an off-road rig. I ended up making a new downpipe, and shuffled it up a bit so it's not quite so low.

Side q for @cbmontgo - assuming both are original, is your hardtop white a bit whiter than the body Cygnus? Kind of looks like it, but hard to say. We were trying to recall on ours, but it was painted over twice since new and nobody could recall for sure if it was all Cygnus or not when it was new, although during sanding it looked like the base layer on the top was indeed Cygnus. Ours is also an early '76 (Sep 75 build), so that may also factor in.

Yes love your shackle angle. Which ones are you running?

Here is the original exhaust routing on my 10/75 76 model. Vehicle only has 4,500 miles on it. It has the two factory heat shields behind the skid plate. 12/71 added a heat shield to the muffler. From then on the 40 had heat shielding behind the skid plate. Never seen any above the skid plate or listing for one. 1/79 Toyota started routing the exhaust outside the frame where the transmission and transfer case are.

@zerotreedelta it is all original paint and they are a match. This rig is a May 1976 as I recall.

Thanks. These are the HFS shackles for their 4” lift. I usually run the larger option (I forget the length, but something like 5.5” pin to pin). I think their standard one is 4.5” pin to pin, which is maybe 1” longer than stock. The 5.5” one makes the rig sit more level. I can’t stand the stink bug look of some lifts.

People bag on HFS/CCOT lifts, but I am a shameless fan.
