85 Turbo????

I'll have to check... I just chalked it up to them being Turbo... :meh:

They better be! :flipoff2:

Can't see where on the frame, but the tags under the hood match the ones on the door jambs...

And the truck is a JT4RN, and the Runner a JT3RN?

VIN on frame is behind the pass side front wheel.

Don't you have somebody else's cornflakes to pee in? :flipoff2:

The frame thing ain't gonna happen... It's been grinded off...

The things got a digital dash, I'm guessing the box on the D-side kick panel is a computer for the A340H tranny, it says RET, and a 22R-T computer.

It's darn near immaculate for it's year. There is no way you'd think the frame was ever off...

:meh: The tag under the hood says 22REC (under hood tag says engine code is RN60LG), and the one in my truck says 22RET (IIRC) and the tag in the door says the type is a MPV.

But that still doesn't explain to me why the 85 is the new style (to me anyway) OBD port and the 86 is the old?

It's only got 17?,000 miles... Heck, both are around the same miles...

I prolly need to run it through a carfax... But I've got the title...

I didnt even know the Turbo was available in 85!

As to your corn flakes, I just want the truth, and they appear to be Wheaties that someone poured into a Corn Flakes box....

If the frame VIN has been ground off then there's a 100% chance, and I'd bet my last dollar, that you have an 85 Body on a later frame/drive train/wiring harness, and that someone was trying to hide that from the DMV/Cops. If the 85 had a turbo then the firewall tag would say RET like the 86 does, not REC.

Ground off VIN= Oh my God so F#&$&#*# shady! 70% chance the drive train and frame are stolen...

As for the 86 having the early diag wiring, I bet it's just a left over that ran into early 86....

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, I just don't want misinformation on our site.

GOD, WOMEN!

Ok, now....

2ndgen. I'm just messing with you... I don't care if it's not Turbo... It's still a nice truck and I was just thinking how funny it was this is coming out.

I'm glad you moved it to.

The frame. I was thinking the exact same thing. There must be another place the VIN is located...

The parts. Man this is weird... Why would anybody swap every electrical part over from another Turbo 4Runner? It's got tons or Turbo stuff no other 4Runner has under the hood.

The frame is almost clean enough to eat off of. And the condition of the body and interior matches.

AND, I just googed the vin and got a hit on carfax. Carfart says it's a 2bl... Isnt that a 2 barrel? As in carb? An Automatic 4WD 85 4Runner? I would have thought they were all EFI?

So that would mean everything BUT the body has been changed?

Why would somebody do that? That thing could have never been worth doing all that?

WT...

If I can post the VIN, I'll post the CarFart page. It says it's got 11 hits but it won't show me any.

What the heck do I have here?

This is weird... The metal tag under the hood says 22REC, C is Canada, right? There is a sticker under the hood it's all 22RTE? It even tells where the two terminals are you jump to set the timing.

If it was carb, then it was AT in 85. There are no holes drilled in the firewall for a clutch master cyl.

And on the glove box are instructions for driving with the Turbo...

The entire interior would have had to have been swapped. It has every bell and every whistle except a sun roof.... God that would be a nightmare to swap all that stuff over...

There's the answer... The interior or the frame hasn't been swapped... :-(

I think you have it backwards. This was an '86 Turbo 4Runner, probably got rolled, so somebody swapped an '85 body onto the '86 frame. Since it's easier to recycle the '85 title due to the multiple VIN tags on the body, they went with that one and the '86 title went to truck heaven with the body.

No other VIN stampings on the frame that I know of, and I've worked on several bare frames.

No swapping at all... Well... Unless it was the three metal VIN plates...

That explains it all. The newer diagnostic location. The rub out on the frame. and the REC instead of RTE.

It's a

Toyota PO's... You never know what you gonna get...

yup...

A footnote.

The only 1985 model truck to have a turbo option was the SR5 2WD. The 4WD trucks did not get the turbo option until 1986 when they went to IFS.

Learn something every day. Thanks Dan.

I thought I might have one of the 1st ones... :-(

What's kept me going is the VIN plate has the auto code, and the 4:30 gear code... So nothing else really jumped out at me.

So that's a correct tranny code
and what i though was the correct gear code...
and 4Runner VIN plates...

Good matching there, who ever did it...

Who knows WTF I have now...

If I new some LEO's or how to do it, I'd search for lost or stolen rigs... But to be honest it isn't really worth doing that. It had a blowed motor in it when I got it and I haven't ever got it running...

So a ? 4Runner with ?? history and a ??? VIN is worth?... not messing with it...

hilux if you get into a wreak in this thing(if you did buy it and I think you did)
Insurance will start asking a lot of questions, police at your door etc etc.

I thought I might have one of the 1st ones... :-(
