I've got two bench seats out of an FJ75 Troopy... you could probably adapt them to mimic the OEM 45 seats. Free for the taking here in the PHX area...

I finished up the upholstery with my new dash pad and knee savers arrived from FJ 40 Dash. Real happy with the quality and fitment of those replacement parts. The upper dash pad does take a little finagling to fit in but once it does it looks very good.
I couldn’t put it off any longer so I picked up the wiring project again since some new switches arrived in the mail. I have most of the interior done except for the instrument cluster, and most of the engine compartment done as well. For the first time today I ran current through the fuse box and the systems I was able to test worked well even the horn sounds good. Little more work to do and then I can button it up and final wire loom and tape
To test the system I jumped a battery with an in-line 10 AMP fuse that way if anything was wrong it would pop pretty quickly no problems so far
I couldn’t put it off any longer so I picked up the wiring project again since some new switches arrived in the mail. I’m 8 days into a nasty virus of some type and it’s really cramping my plans
So to make up for it I’m spending money like a drunken sailor….. At this stage of the project the boxes get very expensive, I think I’ve spent more on parts in the last three weeks than I have in the first three years! I think I have all the weatherstripping I need for the doors as well as the four sliding windows. And I treated myself to this little jewel.

Very nice. I recently purchased that same cluster to use as parts to refurbish my J07 cluster. All the parts are the same number except the speedometer and the plate with the symbols (my J07 has the symbols and not the words). That nasty virus turned out to be Covid so it slowed down progress dramatically for the last couple weeks
I finished three of the four sliders and wrote that up on a separate thread, the last one has a broken pane of glass and I’m trying to find a replacement but I’ll finish that one up.
I started working on the door assemblies and got the weatherstripping in as well as the vent window and the door glass. I think I’m going to re-place the door hardware while I’m in here but that will have to wait a little bit
I could not find a tutorial on replacing the vent assembly but here’s what I found worked:
Starting with the empty shell slide the door glass into the empty compartment and let it sit against the exterior wall, then install the vent assembly with the felt channel installed. Finagle the window vent interposition and secure it with the two screws. In hindsight I should not have installed the door weatherstripping before this part.
The latch used on the vent window is held in place with a single pin. I got nervous about cracking the glass so I supported it on a small socket and used a fine punch to drive it out
Then install the rest of the Felt channel and slide the moving glass up into the upright position. Then you can complete the rest of the assembly. The door latch goes in first and then that separate piece of glass channel.
I did not realize I needed an extra piece of Felt channel for that last step, luckily I had enough left over to complete the task

You should definitely change out the door locks, handles (inside and out), and lock cylinders (if you have them). Best thing I ever did to my FZJ75 (with almost the same hardware and locks). Those were the first parts I ordered for the Troopy. Great job on those vent windows. I am not looking forward to that battle.

The vents aren’t fun- but when I find myself struggling I slow down and remember these guys thought things out pretty well if it’s not working hit the pause button and try again.
I plan to take the next week off so today was just a light cleanup day in the shop so I won’t come back to a mess. Luckily the stack of remaining parts is getting smaller and smaller so I could throw away a lot of boxes and lo and behold I found the last missing chrome trim for the slider window, that stuff is on Unubtanium so I’m so glad I found it, every once in a while even a blind squirrel finds a nut

Vacation is over, time to get back to work. That instrument cluster isn’t going to wire itself .
so before I make it permanent I thought I would do some tests make sure everything is working and I understand the wiring layout correctly are used a little positive jumper with a five amp fuse and a light touch just to make sure I didn’t snap anything. Tried it on the old cluster first and then took what I learned to the new one slow but sure I think I can make it work.
I still don’t know how to power the amp meter so I’ll move slow on that one

BIG DAY In Casa grande, I still have some loose ends to wrap up but was able to test fire the engine and run all 12 V through the entire electrical system. No snap crackle pop and not a single busted fuse …..yet.
I think I have all of the instrument cluster decoded and wired properly except for the ammeter not sure what I’m gonna do with that yet
But I have turn signals and instrument lights. I took it a step further put a little gas in the car and got the thing the fire with the key first time in 2 1/2 years! Wiring the ignition switch took some finagling but I got it figured out, the painless harness comes with radio/accessory/on/start and the land cruiser only had three options but got her to work just fine.
I hooked up my aftermarket gauges and lo and behold actually built oil pressure which is a very very good thing

Things took a turn south this week, and I wrote it up in a separate thread if you’re interested. But that snafu has been corrected and on to bigger and better things. I got her to idle yesterday but very roughly so now I need to do some tuneup work on her. Even with my vent and fan on the exhaust was unbearable so to go any further I need to get her rear end pointed out.
The Harbor freight wheel dollies work okay but it’s still a beast to move that big vehicle around so luckily I had a little horsepower to help me out.
I checked the valves and got the timing pretty close yesterday but she still idling really rough and really rich so I’ll take a look at vacuum leaks and the carburetor today or tomorrow.
I went through the hydraulics this morning and yesterday and got them reasonably bled, I’m sure there’s still some air in the system but at least I could check for leaks and I got some meaningful paddle

A lot of highs and lows the last couple days. It sure is nice seeing it outside in the sunlight. Was able to improve the idling somewhat found some vacuum leaks, got the timing a little bit closer, and had to correct some errors in the carburetor linkage. It’s a great feeling sitting in the driver seat turning the key and having a start.
Have been jumping around and Saturday and this morning and working on the brake system. I was able to save all of the hard brake lines only one had a gnarled up fitting and of course that’s the one that was leaking. Stumbled upon a cool trick on a TV auto show, loosen the fitting slightly then retighten loosen retighten and repeat and you can actually watch the fitting thread in deeper each turn since this was a gnarled fitting I use my vice grips and did that walking back-and-forth and got a full additional Halfturn out of it without having to take the vice grips on and off problem solved..
I still had no pedal to speak of and then I remembered I had not adjusted my new drum brake shoes. So I started in the front and was astounded at how much slack there is between the drum and the shoe I made myself a little caliper to measure the distance so that way I could just crank the adjusters to get it close and then put the drums back on.
And of course the small fabrication jobs take just as long as the big ones had a fabricate a little retaining plate for the choke cable

I had a couple roadblocks that I wrote up on separate threads surrounding squishy brake pedal and a clutch fork return spring. Thanks to Matt and Curt for helping me diagnose the brake problem and sourcing a new master cylinder so quickly. I’m confident I would have spend hours and lots of dollars andnot figured that one out myself thanks guys.
Some nice highlights even though I’m waiting for a lot of parts I was able to get in the driver seat turn the key start it and go through the gears getting in and out of the garage a really nice mile stone.
