We used my buddy’s trailer ramp to check the flex to measure how much to cut off the fender.

Crazy lucky break there man.

Yeah. The shop that did the drive shafts mulled out the tubing in that section to be able to mount the Toyota section to it. All I did is remove the thin part, about 1/4 inch then grinded down the spline section since it is thicker. We got it close for it to be tight and hammered it in and then it got welded by someone way better than me.

I wish I could give a shout out to this guy that had a bad ess trailer and let me borrow his grinder and welded the driveshaft for me.

Pretty tight fit

Picking up 5” lift trail gear springs tomorrow. This will hopefully help with the rubbing issue. I currently only have a 2.5 lift.
I’m waiting to hear back from 4x4 labs about new steering arms, that will send one of the steering rods behind the axle. This will allow me to move the axle forward one inch.

I can’t find a pitman arm that is shorter and I will have to correct the steering if I move the axle forward one inch.

Finally got my ARB lockers working today.

I had lots of overdue on my 80 so I didn’t get a chance to put in the 5” springs yet

Hopefully I get to them during the week.

Nice job man, this is making me miss my 80 pickup!

I think the blue would look really nice on that truck!

My first vehicle was an ‘81 longbed in that blue with 31” BFG MTs on white wagon wheels. Bought it in ‘86. Loved that truck. I agree the blue is awesome!

Finally finished installing the rear springs. New heavy duty hangers and creeper joints in the rear. Just waiting for a few bolts to replace the OME SHACKLES with longer ones.
The truck is tall but wanted to keep the front tires out of the cab when flexed.
Now to finish doing metal work then body work then paint it.

Wow that's a lot of caliper interference. What's the offset of the wheels? Did you consider the bolt-on type of spacers?

It wasn’t as bad as it looks. I just took off a little more off the calipers to be on the safe side. I think the calipers will be fine.

My homie, who is teaching me how to weld burned them on for me.
@GLTHFJ60 check out his bad ass 60 “moonshine”

OK, just the amount of thread engagement on those lug nuts looked terrifying. Are those standard 3.75" backspaced wheels?

Yeah. I agree. The spacers pulled the rim way out and I didn’t have full engagement with the lug nuts. I looked into replacing my studs but 6 x 24 @ $18.00 per stud was a little steep. I didnt drive it like that. I didnt like the way it looked and didn’t want the rim to sheer the studs off.

I asked around and was told that shaving the calipers and remove the spacer would be fine.
I have wheeled it and driven about 200 miles on it and have not noticed any issues.

I don’t know what the backspacing is on the rims. I won them in a raffle at an event and didn’t measure them before I mounted them on.

I finally got some time in the garage to do some more rust repair on the truck.
This was the worst part of the bed. I was able to remove most of the bad rust. There is still some rust left but not enough for me to worry about it on this truck. Haven’t quite figured out how to smooth out my welds a little more but it’s nothing some bondo can’t cover up.

Also managed to finally get the rear suspension done. The shackle angle is not great but I planned ahead for the extra weight I will have in the bed. I calculated it will be around 300 pounds with tools, spare tire, a cooler, camping gear, tools and recovery gear. Hopefully that should correct the shackle angle.

Nice! So many cool mini truck builds going on here now. Did you paint the window crank and armrest? If so how is the durability of that?

I quickly spray canned them. I have had mixed results in the plastic with spray painting interior plastic parts in the past.
The best results I have ever had is when I used Bulldog spray adhesive prior to painting.
I didn’t use any this particular time because I didn’t have any but I’m not to worried about it since it only takes me a few minutes to get the parts off and respray them at a later time if I need to.
