Builds 80 series where to start! Again.... (1 Viewer)

The following vid full of heavily turbo charged, Japanese inline 6s reminded me of this build. Most of these are Nissan's I'm pretty sure but there are a few Toyotas as well (around 1 minute you can spy one).

For those of us waiting to see this build in action this can tide us over until we get there. For scottryana if you haven't seen this (guessing you have) and you are looking for ideas on how to be sure people can tell your engine has been modded, even at the cost of driver/passenger field of view, there are some good ideas in here.

I have watched their videos I love just about all of them! It is very cool when they walk through the pits and you can see all the different wild setups people are running!! I talked to a couple of them and it is like disposable engines over there. They said they will run 50-60psi through them until the block blows up and then they just build a new one! They don't spend any time on efficiency, no real head work, just lots of boost! Very wild.

I drove the truck today, mainly just to keep the tiny battery charged up so excuse the dust and pollen covering the truck, but I thought this was a good way to show how little it actually is. It is smaller than a stock Highlander! Haha.

Haha thanks, it's definitely different than the norm we see on mud. I will probably keep the intercooler black so it is still all stealthy ;)

That front will look awesome when the intercooler is stuffed in there.

Tight! This is such a sweet build. I live in a city and mostly drive in a city so deep down this is the best build for me. Great work

Also particularly well punctuated by the Jeep to the left

Yeah that was a bone stock Jeep on probably 29-30" tires and you can see the hood and roof lines are quite a bit lower. Overall I am pretty happy with the height. I think it will be just right with the 4" side exit exhaust, front mount IC, etc.

I know we give the 80 a lot of s*** for being gutless but as the truck sits around 4500lbs it actually has a lot of go!! It makes me wonder if all the added luxury options we got in the US actually hurt sales because American audience like the feel of power?

I could totally drive this truck the way it is now and be ok with it. I couldn't really say that when it was 900lbs heavier.

Don't you need to do the smoke headlight covers and turn signals? Make it t total Ninja?

Not really any big news, but kind of cool.

Since I will not be running a distributor on this engine and will be doing Coil on Plugs with the standalone I didn't need the top of the distributor. I did however need the base of the distributor for the Cam angle sensor so this CNC cap was made to go on the base of the dizzy. It is just 7075 aluminum with a clear anodizing.

I just got one of them too. I'm waiting to see if otaku garage comes through with the intake manifolds and I'll try one. If they aren't ready by the end of this month I'll probably just put all my crap together and run the stock intake manifold. I only pulled the top end apart to change to ID injectors and it snowballed, I finished welding up my 4x4labs rear bumper this weekend and will start the sliders this week sometime. Then I'll start on the elite 2000 install with the LS coils and run sequential ignition. Your rig looks sexy I know it has to handle much better being low.
Where did you get the spark plug wires for the LS coils?

Toyota plugs and custom wires.

Oh you went with the coil on plug. I thought you used the LS coils. Is that the spartan kit?

Yeah the plate is his. I was going to us LS coils but I think this looks cleaner.

It is way cleaner. What coils did you use? I think I got a price from him for the COP kit

I am still using the GENI head I bought from Beno, it is brand new and has a lot of port and matching work done some I am kind of committed. For the coils I bought the mounting plate from a guy in Australia but I did the wiring for the plugs, etc. I am likely going to use a Haltech.

Hi Scott
Are you still using the head you had finished up or have you changed to the version 2 head. If you are still using original, where did you find this coil on plug setup, did you fab it? What ecu will you trigger it with?
