So I just found this thread and then came across this video on YouTube a few minutes later and figured it was quasi-relevant. My apologies if it's a repost.

Impressive but that guy could be way faster through the corners..

Haha Yep posted back on page 5, but I love that video! Haha.

This is very good news! I knew it would work since all the 340 series transmissions are so much alike.

I am a little doubtful of their claim of 700-800awhp though, I mean 800 wheel horsepower on a 3500lb 2wd car, that won't really hook is going to be a lot different than 800awhp on a 4500lb 4wd SUV. I think this is an amazing option for everyone that is sticking with the stock trans - V8 swap guys, cummins guys, supercharger guys, turbo guys, etc. $2995, is basically what a new rebuild from Toyota costs and you get some great upgrades, but I think since I am going to push it a little harder, I am still not going to risk it.... That might change again but we will see.

Ryan, I finally got an update from ATF:
"
Jason,
Hey it's been awhile since we last spoke. Just wanted to let you know that we're gonna get your unit on the bench and apart soon. But aside from that we had a Tacoma 343F trans it looks the same as the A340E inside. The Heavy Duty 2nd gear sprag is going to work, the Billet Pistons as well as the Valve Body mods so we believe we can get this to handle some decent power 700-800WHP. Now the question for you is how far do you want us to go as far as building this. Do you want to be able to handle that 700-800 WHP, if so you'd be looking at $2995 for the transmission. Torque Converter wise we`ll have to invest more time but I think we can build one for it. Might need a flexplate from you to make sure the covers we use for the 2JZs can be used for this engine. "

Im sending them the flywheel this weekend. Ive got money flying out my account on 20 directions at moment, so it will be a long minute before I get it... But its a start... The parts fit.

Finally canceled my rear heavy sway bar order... After almost a year they finally tell me sorry we don't make it anymore. Where did you get yours? Oh and whats your opinion on the suspension from ICON? Im still on the fence on suspension. I'll still be running 35 tires.

Oh and sorry I forgot to answer your questions about suspension. Yes, I had a very hard time getting my swaybars, it took something like 14 months to actually get them after I paid for them. I recently found out that one of our Australian members has 80 swaybars built. I will track down his mud name and post it here (xxxxx)

I think Icon makes some great products they spend the time to dial them into their intended use. Both Icon and Slee built their springs and shock setups for a very specific type of 80. I know the Icon setup was specifically for their 80, so I would put in a call to both Icon and Slee, find which setup is closest to where you're going to be and I think that will be the setup that works best.

Hmmm looks like "Grand Tour" has figured out the badassness of Patrol/Land Cruisers racing up against a Porsche 918. Lol.

This makes me want to put a turbo 1fz-fe in a 100 series/LX470!!

You said you'll be using a A/A FMIC, yes?, and in relation to the Hypertune intake, will the intercooler have the inlet/outlet on the same side, or different sides? I'm wondering if I can use my CX Racing FMIC with the Hypertune intake.

Yes for a street car, an A/A is best since you don't have the low speed offroad aspect to deal with. For offroad trucks I like the A/W with the fans.

The intercooler will have the inlet and outlet on opposite sides. Intake in the passenger's side top, outlet on the driver side bottom. It will be a vertical flow intercooler. The problem with the stock intake is that it puts the throttle body on the same side as the exhaust. So you have to run your charge piping next to the turbo manifold. It only makes since to keep the intake and exhaust on opposite sides of the engine.

Couldn't one put fans on an a/a intercooler as well?

For all suits and purposes most turbo and supercharged vehicles are driven on the road mainly, right?

Unless your seeing ALOT of mud, snow, sand, and gravel, as well as pavement, I don't see the need to turbo a rig.......for crawling and wheeling?

I understand you have no intention of off roading this truck .

I have a set of Icon's on my Lx450 with a 4" Slee lift and medium Slee springs & 35's. I love the ride. I drive mostly on the road, but have a 3/4 mile long dirt road/driveway. They are very adjustable with even the softest setting not being to soft for the road. The stiffest settting giving a quite firm ride. I have them backed a few clicks off the firm setting and they are forgiving and very comfortable.

Sorry I haven't been very responsive, I have been working back to back night shifts at the hospital. It kills me! Ha.

So while you could put electric fans on an A/A intercooler for slower speeds, those fans then become restrictive at high speeds.

And while it doesn't seem obvious at first that you would want a turbo offroad, think about things like wheeling in Colorado at 11,000ft, there were places even in low range where the truck just had no power. Turbo is sized for low end torque is really great in mud and snow, or even sand.

If I were you and thinking about doing a system I would really put some thinking into what your end goal is, what your budget is, and if you have emissions constraints and go from there.

A 58mm turbo is as small as I would go, anything smaller while rated for good power just wouldn't be able to supply the volume needed. A 58-62mm I think will end up being the sweet spot for the majority of all users.

It's been a learning experience to read the 134 pages of your two builds over the last week. Thanks Ryan, it's inspiring too. Very. Will update as that takes effect..

Because of what you said, I'm going to dyno my SC'd 2uz and see how it responds to future enhancements.

Hope all is well for you and the hospital work is a positive too. Looking forward to the continuation of the build!

As I said, you've inspired me....and so I ordered one of these: Hypertune Intake!

Over 20 months in the making and the Hypertune Intake Manifold deal should all be worked out! I was working with Pete at Hypertune and was going to buy direct from him, but I wanted to give Nero the chance to make his cut since he helped me out so much with the rods and pistons. SO I called Nero up and he is having it added to his next big Hypertune shipment and I should have the 1st 1FZFE Hypertune Intake Manifold in the US in a couple weeks! haha.

If anyone is interested in one the original price was supposed to be $2800 with the current AUD conversion, but since it did not take as much time on the CNC machine as expected it is coming in around $2020 without the throttle body, if you are interested make sure you give Nero at Titan Motorsports a call ASAP. :)

I also have the cast aluminum front facing manifold available for sale for cheap if anyone would like to try it. Maybe $175 plus shipping??

This has been a long time in the making! Go look at the s*** manifold on the $80k Titan motorsport 1FZ and this will be much much nicer ;)

Awesome! It's a beautiful piece! It's car art definitely! Not sure who you ordered through but please let either Pete at Hypertune or Nero at Titan know that you heard it from me since I really feel like they went out of their way to do this for me and if they know it paid off for them in some little way, it might lead to more work like this in the future. :)

Yes sir, this is what I sent Peter Lewin of Hypertune, in the third email: I saw you had delivered the same unit that I’m after to another ih8mud member Ryan Scott. I got the inspiration to contact you from watching his turbo build.

I went direct.

And, I went with black powder :-)

Just encase anyone was actually interested in how the race between the million plus dollar Porsche 918 Hypercar and the turbo Patrol turned out. Lol

 Watched that few days ago. Hilarious and savage.

Hey - long time lurker here who just finished both your threads Scott.... seriously incredible and aspirational stuff!

Anyway, any idea what tire that Patrol is running....? i love the meaty sidewall.
