A bit more fine-tuning now that my LHD Shifter and the lower boot for the T-Case Shifter have arrived.

Here is the adapter plate. Four holes bolt to the truck captive nuts which previously were used by the ATM plate. Five holes also are pass-throughs for the bolts for the figure 8 and bracket which holds the upper boots.

Adapter plate with the console bracket mounted. Mount is just a single bolt/nut in the middle so that I can pivot for tightening the lower two mount bolts. Note the far right bolt and nut, which will serve as the rear mount of the ABS sensor.

Adapter and figure 8 in place.

Top boots lined up and in place.

Will eventually body seal the figure 8 onto the body, just as the ATM was attached. Will also be prepping and painting everything.

REALLY nice work Steve, it looks great. Your adapter plate is very similar to what I have planned for mine, now I'm going to steal some of your ideas :grinpimp: What'd you do to blackout the console? That looks really sharp.

Blue painters tape and around four coats of Satin Black Krylon Fusion Plastic paint. Wiped clean with SEM Solve beforehand. Did this years ago with my AT console, and it never scratched or showed any wear.

Well I guess I can update this thread with a bit of news.

About 9 months with the 5 speed and it turns out the supplier in the UK gave me a dud rebuild. The thing howled since day 1 after the swap and it's given me highway vibrations. I thought it was the drive shafts but after tons of work, money and time everything is mitigated and all signs point towards the tranny.

With that being said, I'm trying to ID my version of H151 so I can figure out the synchros. I was hoping @Dave 2000 would be able to help.

Here are the only pics I have of my trans when off the truck:

Dang, sorry to hear that Nick. No good

Bummer, Dave at Japan 4x4 can help - he knows enough about these that he may be able to recommend needed parts.

Nick, sorry your going through with this. Let me know if I can be of any help if at all.

I actually got a list from another mud member who rebuilt his after his 5 speed swap @Bergretter . Sounds like he went through the same pain as me.

He sent me a list of parts which I believe is complete for a rebuild. I put them into partsouq and listed the prices. Doesn't seem TOO bad except that the canadian dollar is just terrible at the moment.

There are 3 different versions of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear synchros so I'll need an ID of my trans before pulling the trigger on the parts.

I know I have a shedload of pictures when sorting mine, but is over a year back, I will have a root around.

Dave

Looks like Terrain Tamer makes a "Gearbox Kit", so it may be worth asking Ward and Georg what it would cost, and if it would work for your application.

I've used terrain tamer products for years and their products are very high quality. Aussie aftermarket. You can also order through 4wheel auto in Edmonton. They are a little closer to you

Awesome thanks!

I took a look at the pictures @Rock40 posted of his h151s and I noticed mine is different. Mine doesn't have the upper tapped holes with bolts and there's a cluster of three protrusions (I have no idea what they are) which are drilled out in other examples but mine aren't. This makes me think I have an early version.

Thanks for looking into this :)

I'm looking to go full OEM rebuild though since all the parts can be had from partsouq. I wonder if any vendors would look through the list I have (which actually originally came from akella) and confirm it is complete.

So you want someone to do all of the work to confirm what you need and then you are going to buy the parts elsewhere?

Sign me up!!

Exactly! That's why I'm hesitant to talk to vendors!

A two-way street no doubt.

Well I shouldn't need to now, I got all the parts figured out minus the synchros pending identification of the year of gearbox I have.

I used the list of parts I have and also referenced from this incredibly detailed rebuild here:

H151F manual gearbox rebuild

I used the information from there and cross referenced with what I had already listed and noticed I was missing a few things. I am quite certain I have a complete and, if anything, somewhat "over the top" list of components necessary for a robust rebuild.

No need to piss off suppliers.

Phew.

Now onto ID.

I looked at a pic of my trans and a pic supplied by @Rock40 . I already noticed a few differences.

Trans Differences.JPG

My trans doesn't have the holes drilled on the bottom right. Also it doesn't have the drillied/tapped hole with the bolt on either side (showed by green circle). Another difference is the hook (not sure what it is for?). Mine is much smaller than the version shown on the bottom. Not sure if these are tell tale signs of which version it is but I'm guessing mine is a 90-92 version.

FWIW, mine is a 93, just after the change and it has the larger hook and plug on the top. Cant recall anout the 3 drilled holes.

In absentia, I'm glad my old pics are of some use
