You should also get the prices together. So we know what we paid in total for parts.

I'll do it when I feel like crying myself to sleep at night. :)

At long last from the UK, the 24 valve 1HD-FT, 12 valve 1HD-T and 5 speed H151's are finally here!! Let the games begin......the 1HD-T/H151 combo will be for sale shortly, located in Washington state. My buddy also has 2 other 12 valve and 5 speed transmissions for sale if interested

The 1HD-FT is not for sale, it's getting swapped into my 96' FJ80. Between my buddy and I we have 3 12 valve 1HD-T's with matching 5 speed manual transmissions for sale. The price on those has not been finalized, it was a TOTAL pain to get this stuff into the US past customs and very expensive. The parts left the UK in early April and just cleared last week.

Welcome to the importer club.. !!Nice setup

The 12 valve 1HD-T's are from 90'-94' right hand drive FJ80's. The trannies run anywhere from 90'-97' I think and I don't believe there's a way to determine the exact year on those without taking them apart. The internals (specifically synchros) changed over time

Ok, great. I'll get those tomorrow

My conversion parts came from the same supplier.

Best advice I can give before installing Gary's stuff...

-Open H151F and get everything inspected. Mine was supposedly rebuilt but has screaming bearings and the synchros aren't exactly awesome.
-If you got driveshafts, get all the u joints replaced and balance and check for straightness. All 4 of my u joints were bad.

Here are some tranny pics, let's get these ID'd!!

I THINK you will be able to tell what Tranny "B" is by that big electrical connector on the right. I think it changed depending if it's early/late model. I could be totally out to lunch.

Can't wait to hear how someone can tell between the early and late model H151s...

ALSO I think it would be good to get someone to confirm if a 100 series H151 would work. This would help enormously with part sourcing and would reduce cost as the 100 series stuff is far more available and the price point is much more reasonable. I think @FloridaFJ80 Frank can weigh in? Or an Aus member. This would be a good piece of information for the thread. Not trying to steal your thunder @Rock40 !

Lol, not at all. I'll take some more pics but the large electrical plug (transmission plug) seems to be the same on both the 24 valve 1HD-FT and the 12 valve 1HD-T that are currently I'm my shop. I'll double check though.

By looking at the mud and grease that was on tranny "B", it looks like it used to be bolted up behind the 24 valve. We'll see......I'll get more pics tomorrow

I am pretty sure a H151F from a 100 series if its mated to a 1FZ, will be the same as an 80 series one. What may change will be the shifters from the case if at all.

I remember finding a thread by a Norwegian fellow who put a 100 series h151 into 80. Try searching for that.

A, appears to be a late 93 through to early 95, B is the later version and IIRC has slightly better synchros, the harness connectors are different to my 94 vehicle so definitely the later version. If you find a gearbox with the left hand side upper and most forward boss UNDRILLED then it is an early pre 94, this had the weaker synchros. Not sure why but Toyota stared drilling and tapping the boss perhaps for another application? If you fit a reversing light switch in there it activates if fifth gear is selected, I was guessing perhaps for an overdrive unit? I was hoping to use this switch position to disable my electric cooling fan when the AC was on. My second hand unit turned up from a 1993 but has apparently been overhauled as the shift is pretty smooth except the first couple of 1 -2 shifts when cold, I eventually used the AC trinary switch to control the fan instead, details in my LC 80 thread, link in my sig.

EDIT: Note, I just remembered the later engine HD-FT uses a bigger clutch and flywheel, I do not THINK the splines changed but may save a headache later on, easier to check now while they are on the floor.

regards

Dave

Dave, thanks for your insight, it's much appreciated. I have all new clutch components and I'll start mating all this stuff together soon.

On a side note, the engine wiring is likely going to prove to be a large challenge that previously expected. When the 24 valve was removed, the harness was just hacked off at the rear of the engine block, splicing that or finding factory plugs (to add pins to) is going to be a PAIN. The 12 valve 1HD-T harness is fully intact so I may investigate whether or not I can switch the harnesses around.
