I only know this works for my 1997 FZJ80 40th ann., but it should work for many cruisers. Basically, I drilled a hole through the visor near the mount, put in a small bolt (10mm head and nut) with normal washers and a nylon insert locking nut. I tighten the bolt when it is droopy and loosen it if it gets too tight. It has worked well for 6 years so far. It isn't very noticeable, but when I do notice it, it looks like a couple hundred dollars.

I felt around for the wire to the lighted mirror, couldn't really feel it, took an exacto knife and cut a small X so the drill would not pull a thread and rip up the visor cloth. I drilled the hole about 1 cm down and 1cm over from the corner where the mounting axle (this may not be the real name) comes out of the visor. I drilled at a slow speed (be careful to stop if it looks like the cloth is wrapping around the drill bit) until through all but the other side cloth, and made another small X on the exit side. I inserted a small bolt, 16mm long x 6 x 1.0, and tightened the bejeezus out of it until it finally started to have an effect. It may seem like it won't tighten enough, but it does finally. Then I kept a couple of 10mm wrenches in the console until I had the tightness fine tuned.

You could use those plastic screw or bolt head hiders or paint the bolt or use black chrome bolts or ? if you want it to be hidden or better looking, but so far no one has said anything or seemed to notice.

Good luck, tell me if you need more info or a picture.

PICS.... PLEASE... Same issue here!

There is a solution that involves putting a magnet in the visor and one in the headliner. I went the route, it's clean and cheap :). Search around for the thread, just get the right magnets the ones I bought at home depot weren't strong enough, I think magnets from Ace were the way to go. Good luck

Not bagging on the magnet mod at all, but this mod with the bolt/nut lets you adjust the visor and have it stay in the position that you adjust it to. The magnet mod only has 2 positions - stuck to the roof, and droopy. I like to store my sunglasses on the top of the visor, and the magnet mod doesn't allow this (at least it isn't functional while my glasses are up there...)

Nice ideas.

Sorry, but I can't see how this works from the description alone. Are you screwing into the headliner? Pics would be very helpful.

Ok, sat in the driver's seat, looked at my visor and I think I understand... you are sandwiching the rod that the visor rotates on between the washer assemblies on either side of the visor itself. No drilling into the headliner.

That's it.:)

I recently picked up a set of tan Tundra Limited visors for mine. $20 total and works great! Just an option.

1st-gen (1999-2007) or 2nd-gen (2007-present) version of the Tundra?

Right. No headliner involved, and someone else got the meat of it, this holds the visor in any position, not just up out and of the way or droopy and in the way, as magnets would do.

Not saying it's for all, but if it's for you, here are some pics (first pics posted, so please forgive any goofs):

One shows the dr side bolt with the visor mount screws so you can reference the distances., The next shows the nylon insert lock nut on the dr side. The last shows the passenger side with 2 scenties to show off how strong this fix is, and more that I tried 2 different placements of the bolts.

The drivers side works best, but both work well. I don't have a pic of the little x I made with an exacto knife, but if you need a pic, I'll cut a piece of scrap fabric and show it, or someone who does it can post their procedure. Also, remember to drill slowly, and if you grab a thread, stop and back it off before proceeding. Remove the bit from the drill if necessary. It's easier than it sounds. Tell me what mods you come up with. Good luck.

Very nice work sir!
Would larger (fender) washers help spread the force over to the hinge shaft?
Anybody got a pic of one of these visors that's been skinned? Kind of a skeleton maybe? i just wonder what the original friction mechanism was. Seems like most of the visors I've had were spring loaded so they stayed up somehow.

There's a picture of the frame in the magnet solution thread posted above.
