Ordered my 4 x 4 labs bumper from Luke about a year ago. I ordered the pre-welded version and had a well-known, local to me 4 x 4 shop put it on.
They told me they were gonna have to do some trimming because the bumper was not square,
I told them to go ahead, but I was unaware that my rear right fender flare was going to be cut. I have ran this bumper for about a year now and have really tried not to let the cut and bad fitment bother me.
Took some pictures for you guys to see and give me your advice on. I know my 80 is not winning any beauty pageants but I do care about cosmetics. The guys made sure that it was installed properly with no error on their end. The images are going to compare the left side versus the right side. The left side having much more gap than the right side with the cut fender flare.
I know that sometime has passed, but as I have put more money into this thing, I really would like it to look nice and not chopped up. Probably should’ve reached out earlier, but I still think this is unacceptable. Otherwise, the bumper has been great.
Not looking to make any sticklers upset on these forms, as I know that I have to tread very carefully

Here are some very rough measurements.

Driver rear side first,
passenger side rear second

Well that sucks…. First of all the bumper should have been modified not your fender flare. I have never heard this complaint before. If it were me and I were bothered by this a year later, I’d contact 4x4Labs with photos attached to an email. Luke is a good guy but this issue is a year old. I have that bumper but I built it myself years ago, it’s been great at protecting my 80 on the trail. Yours appears to never have been beaten on and that’s good in regard to getting a replacement bumper.

Any chance your frame is bent?

I most definitely agree that I should’ve reached out sooner, and yes, the bumper has seen very little usage, I wheel, but not to the extent of what this bumper is capable of. As I have spent more time, effort, money, and grew more in the Toyota community it has started to really bother me. People see it, it’s not just me.
One reason I didn’t reach out at first was I got this bumper a week before we struck out to drive out west halfway across the country to Colorado from where I live. Getting these bumpers were crucial to our trip and I didn’t see opting for an instant replacement feasible, I am not a complainer, I am loyal to the people and small businesses I invest in. I bought a front bumper from him and a rear bumper for this trip which cost me well over $5000. I still run both of his bumpers on my rig. They both came pre-welded from his factory. As seen in these new pics below this thread, the front bumper’s bull bar also seems tweaked slightly aiming downhill to the right, but I have looked over this issue as it is minimal compared to my rear bumper which is what really concerns me.
I agree Luke is a super nice dude, not really sure what to do here. I have a clean title 80, and the guys at the shop told me the rear bumper wasn’t square before mounting it. I’m not sure on how to know without taking precise measurements, however, I highly doubt this is the issue. I am not mad at all clearly because of the time frame. But as more people have started to notice it and as I have gotten this thing where I want it to be aesthetically, it does bother me and there’s not much I can do without replacing the bumper with another brand or hoping for some help. Once again, not a complainer! This is just a very expensive hobby, and sometimes looks do matter. Thanks !

I hope this is a learning experience for you.
The minute the shop said there was an issue you should have went in person to see it your self.
If said shop says they need to trim you need to ask what exactly there going to trim!

Not trying to be a dick but it’s a little late to be bringing this up.
And I would find another shop for future work or better yet start doing the work yourself.

YUP knew this was coming. Never too late to make note of potential flaws in someone’s work. As stated above I have addressed the late notice, I am not demanding anything, I am just making note of some clearly visible imperfections on my rather expensive set of bumpers that the good ole boy in me has tried to not make a big deal about. And it is not about the trim, it’s about the bumpers fitment.
I do plenty of work myself, no need for any opinions of the extent of my mechanical expertise or capabilities that I possess. I do not weld, or do any fabrication (Yet). Just wanted it mounted right, as these guys do this stuff everyday. Hope the west is treating you the best!

Like others have said Luke is a stand up guy you should reach out to him. Probably should have done that before posting here.
But I don’t know what he could do about the flare.
IMO the shop should have never trimmed that.

Cool man, looks nice there.
Definitely agree about the shop. Not really asking Mr Luke to do anything at all, just wanted to bring it up, as it was an issue that I would like to fix with help or none at all, it has been a year 🤷🏼‍♂️ I’m a fair dude, not a freeloader.

Dang chill. I've built one of these bumpers out myself there is definitely fitment issues was there any damage in shipping the powder coat would have definitely been messed up if it got bent and that would be a long shot that said that spot is a weak spot but doubt it got bent from shipping.

Dang chill.
Me chill? Man I am chill as can be, yeah I highly doubt any shipping issues. Not pointing any fingers or anything, I’m just on here to bring it up, ask if anyone else has had this issue and suggestions of what to do or to just leave it. Definitely does suck tho, especially because this bumper hasn’t seen any abuse. I’ll shoot Luke a text and see what he thinks could be the issue.

Was referring to both parties as no one else had responded. If you have his number text him and ask no brainer right there

Chill, what you talking about Willis 😂🤣🤪

Tough spot for both parties. I know you said that you really needed the bumpers for a trip. Was it a rush ask to get them built? (This doesn't excuse mistakes but I am just trying to understand both sides) The only thing that makes this really difficult to me is that you needed these bumpers for your trip you put them on even though they weren't right and were able to make your trip a success I am guessing. But now afterwards you have some buyers reflection. It is kind of like being really hungry ordering a sandwich you like, they made the sandwich wrong but you ate it anyways and a week later you came back to talk about it.

I agree it shouldn't have happened they should have been right and square from the start but I think going back to 4x4labs it is kind of late. Once your shop noticed the problems they called you and you gave them the go ahead everything from that point is your accepted problem to fix....

Is it parallel to the tailgate? Certainly seems to be installed further forward on the passenger side/out of square with the frame centerline...

- might be something that can be corrected.

Yeah dude, I agree with you. Not a bumper asked to be done in a rush, and not a both parties situation, me versus anyone lol. Was just hopping on here looking for some suggestions. Never asked Luke for any kind of reimbursement at all, just shot him a text to see what boss man thinks. Worst case I’ll pull it off, attempt to fix it or just cut it, and get a new flare. Just a pricey eye sore that has grown on me.

Aftermarket parts are crap quality not suprised at all . Nobody else will notice it but you imo

BTW very nice looking truck and I can understand your frustration looking at it. Hopefully you can find a good solution.
