Have Mercy………I would never get any drive time in this rig, I’d spend all my time just looking at it.
It is a “fer’ piece” from Mule 1.0

I will admit to a momentary wave of nostalgia looking at the 1.0 bones piled up in the corner. Good news is, it’s going to a worthy project. Spoke with the new owner yesterday. Fella out of Kentucky is resurrecting a 77. He was looking for something to replace a beyond all mortal hope tub, fenders, windshield frame etc etc. Fortune favors the intrepid and 1.0 is perfect for his current intent. Actually looking forward to a resurrection thread if he tosses one up on the forum.

Edit for pic.

2.0 Analog dash controls. Place holders along the bottom row are for upgraded Heat/AC. Really need to change out the choke cable knob.

Last machinations from the story teller.

Good day on the ground yesterday. Although “Wilson” looked a little hungry chained to the sanding station. I don’t think they’re feeding him enough. The pics and narrative I’ve posted don’t do 2.0 justice. The Mule, in its diamond plated glory, was a character, 2.0 has character. It is a Mule of a different blend altogether. The paint, as paint will do, is starting to cure a bit and is changing hues. Hood , along with the fenders/bib and aprons are on deck and should see color in the very near future. With everything glossed and polished the steering wheel is showing it’s age. Currently looking at “options”.

Sun came out as I was leaving, so we rolled er’ out in the sun before I headed home. Last pics from yesterday for the visually stimulated..😎

I vote restoring the Steering wheel. You gotta keep that as a vestige of the original Mule. “1.0 ridin shotgun” if you will

Resto is on the table. Current steering wheel looks like it was chewed on by angry beavers. Asking myself the refreshtomod screening question: “ Is the juice worth the squeeze”? 🤔

Of course, the problem with a restoration/refresh/restomod of the extraordinary caliber of what RCLC has done, is that any vestiges of the old will appear less than satisfactory next to the shiny new... @Birdhead does exemplary work on steering wheels.
@Birdhead does do great work, for things like the wheel, we would keep it in house if the juice to squeeze ratio makes sense.

Let it be written, let it be done.

Part of the trek north was to make a final determination on bezel/HT color selection. Given the nature and mix of the Mule Brown we went somewhat outside the box with the selection. Meeting of the minds, all in agreement with the walk off favorite.

Can’t get a good digital translation of the color so I’ll hold off posting until we get a sprayed example..😁

Going with the Pewter front bumper as a wink and a nod to OE. So, stem to stern all the Pewter bits will match.

Headed out this AM yto get some feedback from the upholstery shop. We’re kicking ideas around on the door cards. Decided to color match to the seats.

Glamour shot…..

The bottle jack is a great contrast.

Looking like it belongs next to the “genuine reproduction”, incorrect for the year, tool roll. :grinpimp:

Here’s my response to this thread so far……. Big ole ‘like’ emoji licensed to cover entirely cuz I’m too lazy to do individually

A bakers dozen..

I stopped of at the local Doughnut shop to pick up a dozen individual belt expanders, designated specifically for the Father/Son team working the upholstery on the Mule. I’m currently stacked up in the queue behind a Shelby Mustang that’s getting the full on interior replacement and a Chevy Nomad wagon.

I had high hopes my pre diabetic incentive would forestall the Ford /Chevy tag team getting the full on leather treatment, just long enough to inch the mule a little closer to the fitting room. Two chocolate covered offerings later, I realized all I was going to accomplish was a self induced seizure.

Sooo, I’m out $24 for doughnuts. That’s the worst part, 24 hard earned dollars for 13 doughnuts. That’s almost five gallons of gas..😂 They’re really good guys and I enjoy BS-ing with them. In fact, I’ve marked them as a semi weekly old man coffee stop location. A man needs hobbies.

There was some good news. The three or so cups of processed sugar I injected did get the creative juices flowing. The Son of the Father/Son Duo and I had a pretty good “what if” session. Worked out two or three designs that pay homage to the original YOTA design and add some integrated nuances. Matching the door cards to the seats is not impossible and there’s no “Financial reason” you can’t do anything you want. I’m trying to stay this side of sanity as 2.0 starts winding down.

Dropped an Easter Egg awhile back on the wheel set up. Wheels of choice are currently at the shop. Tire size and design are down to a handful of contenders. Gotta’ keep it real for the “Dark one” just in case she hops a curb coming home from the nail salon.

We’ve got a mark on the wall for the end of April. Hopefully surmising that plan will hold off Mr Murphy. I think I’ll take muffins the next time.😉

Wheel mock up.

Tires are in the hopper. Practicing on demand logistics. Hit the send it now button just in time to mount for shake down and movement to the wrap up station.

I really feel the pizza cutters topped everything off on the Mule, not sure how I’ll feel about steelies and rubber.
