Not as sweet as the engine install but I got the locker dial panel installed in the dash. Two holes drilled.

Cim, how much room do you have between that round tube cross member and the oil pan? I remember having to cut and bend it down some on my old 4BT80.

Not much. About 1/4-1/2” same as the my 80. I few people get rid of it and brace the frame. Most I believe do what you did. On the 80 I’m close to having to reseal the pan so I’m thinking cut it and put it back on with the beefy split color tube clamps. That way it’s removable. I don’t know if that would make it weaker or not?

I had a few minutes of time today to do something quick. I ended up swapping the lift pump bolts to studs before I forgot. Once the fenders are on it would make the job a bit harder. This mod also makes quick work replacing the lift pump in the future. The engine already has the fuel heater delete which I did on the 80 so I didn’t have to mess with that. The nuts got trashed for JIS to keep everything Toyota.

I like to swap transfer case gears instead so 4WD isn’t effected.

Funny part is I alway thought my 80 frame had been modified. A few times I looked at the mounts and thought "Man did they make those mounts look factory". I don't recall if other modified the mounts or not. My engine sits a bit higher than most also. Right above the steering brace that the Diesel Adapters kit has you cut and drop. I am hoping to get away with no body lift unlike my 80 but won't know until I start mocking up the body.
I dont think any of us had to modify the chassis to fit the 6BT...factory 1FZ-FE engine mounts are in the correct location.

I started mocking up body and then a few things not needed just for my own enjoyment.
This is sitting at stock placement. Looks like I will need 1” body lift and a low profile intake horn for the hood to close. The one that is on it is 1” taller than my 80 and they make one shorter than that. Plus the dipstick mount is sticking up 4” above engine at the moment.

Might not be your thing, but what about a scooped 70 intercooler hood? Or something like it for clearance?

looks like with a low profile intake horn and removing that diptstick bracket you might not need the body lift. I would try that before resorting to lifting the body.

Yup that’s what I’m thinking as well. I can also drop the engine and modify the steering brace but rather not go that route.

I like the raised hood but I have the older narrow front.
But I do have the old hood to cut and weld up all kinds of ideas if needed.

Looks awesome Cim!

Any concerns in the not-so-great stock 80 front holding up to that mountain of torque this 6BT will have?
It's something I'm thinking about in my build.
Hey Tony,
Of all the 6BT swapped 80's, I believe mine is the only one that has had significant power mods made to the motor and my front end is holding up fine. I did manage to snap the yoke of my rear driveshaft out on HITR a month ago...but front diff is good.

Good to know! I snagged a elocked, axled, donor 80 for a reason, glad they'll hold up.
Thanks Morgan!
You're running part-time hubs, right?

I don’t do much “rock crawling” so everything holds up fine. I’ve done some power mods in the 80 which I will also be doing on this one. Modified fuel plate, upgraded valve springs and governor springs, AFC spring. Most of these mods just “wake up” the motor making it more responsive and the ability to fuel to higher RPMs. Stock they will start defueling mid 2,000rpm range. Most people upgrade to 4K governors springs giving you fuel up to 4,000rpm and at the same time upgrade to HD valve springs.

Looks like all the cool guys are doing these 75 80 series marriages

This one will be at EXPO 2019

Since I have no harness at all I will be running my own electrical with custom dash gauges.
