Windows down around town is the best, AC is nice on the highway though.

All they see is a big pile of crap in the backyard. They don't have the imagination I have I guess.

That quote is so good I almost put it into my signature. :)

I know Im a bit odd but I enjoy the windows down. It all started when I had a Jeep with no AC in high school.

I'm basically the same way. I don't bother with a/c in the house until it gets into the 90's. I'd rather have the fresh air.

However, a vehicle heats up a lot faster and I'm sure that temps in the 90's happen a lot more often for you in TX than here in PA.

Regarding the windows down vs AC, two situations where I definitely want AC, sitting in slow traffic on a hot day and when it is hot and steamy out and it starts with the heavy rain and you need to put the windows up. Then you are sitting in a sweltering car, not fun!

Regarding the swap, I am a fan of coils, so you will be getting the benefit of the coils from the 80's chassis. My question is what to do with the rear? Keep the coils and add air bags? Get rid of the coils and switch the rear over to leaf springs? Have you given any thought to making the wheel base longer? I don't have any idea how long the cab and nose are on the 75 compared the the front of the 80.
That's probably enough questions for one post!
Looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

I’m not sure yet if I’m stretching the frame. Since I’m going with a Ute bed I won’t make that call until I have it in hand to see how it looks. I’m kinda leaning towards trying to stay with the 80 wheelbase at the moment.

For suspension I will be keeping coils. The bed will probably be aluminum so I don’t see the need for airbags.

I would keep the coils and add airbags if needed. Airbags are great if you intend on having wildly varying loads, empty one day loaded with half a ton of tools the next. You can maintain a comfortable empty ride and proper ride height and stability when loaded.

Right on Cim, this is going to be sweet!

Awesome build! The 5.9's are great engines, can't wait to see this progress.

Will the 80 frame handle the heavy 6bt well, or will you be looking at some hefty reinforcements?

I work in diesel parts, we sell cylinder heads - and when I'm assembling the little 4bt heads I daydream about shoving one of those little mills in my Surf. :flush:

I've had a 6BT in my 80 for 30K now and love it. I blew through some shock relatively quick on the front but they were left on from previous gas engine. It also takes OME comp springs to hold it up. This build will basically be a mirror imagine of what I already have in the 80.

Here’s the power plant that will be heading my way next week from Odd Iron Off Road.
Everyone likes the sound of diesel right?

Thanks for the kind words. :)

As Rob probably mentioned, if it fits a Cummins 4BT or 6BT, he's most likely got it. :)

me gusta mucho el 6BT

edit: no bueno at spanish,

Now that I have the 80's rear main fixed I can actually move this project into the garage and stop using the weather as an excuse to not work on it.

Where are you sourcing your adapter parts? Trans to t-case, motor mounts, etc?

I would never buy anything from Duiser or Diesel Adapters (aren’t these the same?), so I’m curious where everyone gets their stuff.

Adapter I am planning to have a friend make since the plans are open source on here now. Motor mounts I am getting made. Same ones I have in my 80 to make things easy.
