I doubt that its stronger, shifting is certainly snappier. Judging by the H55F ratios,it was obviously built for older engines with less HP as 1st is low.
With the newer engines having more power, the ultra low 1st is not such a necessity.
As it is,I ignore 1st gear unless I really need it,but its nice to have with a load on a steep hill.

Do H151 owners use 1st gear normally?

I was doing second gear starts last week with std split rims on no worrys, but breaking traction at 80kmph on skinnys in the wet roads wasnt fun, back with 315s have to use 1st gear for starts

It is actually beefier (don't know if that automatically makes it stronger). We had a 151 and a 55 apart in parallel recently. the main shaft on the 151 is thicker, the gears are beefier, 5th gear is a much better design and the triple synchros are nice.

Yes, 1st gear gets used a lot.

cheers,
Jan

cost, why reinvent the wheel?
they had this kit on the shelf for years now, the only difference between the factory 75 firetruck 4 door and this one is the roof itself.
i saw a mid 90s HZJ75 4 door firetruck a few years back and a couple more recently.

The Goanna pack was something some of the local dealers commisioned and I think TL engineering in Perth built them.
They used to sell a DIY kit for extending the cab yourself but that was a while back

Does that Goanna have a glass top?

Not bad considering it's not 'designed'

from memory, yes ,its glass fibre. you can just notice the paint difference.

My trip report to australia is here Land Cruiser Owners Club

not exactly a crew cab , again i spotted this in Broome.

I grew up in Cairns and used to go to boarding school in the street next to RV Fab. So I used to go past once a week to see what they'd been up to. There's a million dual-cab 80's and 100's getting around Cairns but the coolest trucks they did were a maroon single-cab GXL 80 with they tray made out of the discarded body and a silver 75 troopy converted into a single-cab ute, retaining the troopy body. Both really well done. If I was to get a Landcruiser chopped I'd get RV to do it any day.

Not sure if this is the one I ordered from Oman or not (will only find out after the EID holiday) but the LHD model has already shown up in the middle east.
