I am only a week into the 100 series Toyota Land Cruiser world. I've been going to the mountains for years trailering jeeps. Last summer I was fortunate enough to travel over Black Bear Pass, Cinnamon Pass, Engineer Pass, Imogene Pass and Ophir Pass. On the way home last year I told my wife that next year, Lord willing, I wanted to drive out in the vehicle that we would drive off road, I was tired of pulling a trailer over Wolfcreek Pass! It didn't take me long to decide that 100 Series Toyota Land Cruiser was the way I wanted to go. It did take a while to find one. I will try to make the registration list, it would be great to get to know others who use the same vehicle and to be introduced to vendors as I will be starting the build process.

No better place to be when you want to figure out what to do with your new LC other than Mud and HIHs!
Welcome! Let the addiction begin!!!:eek::eek::eek:
(BTW, post a pic)

So far my list includes:

-HAM radio
-CB
-Food
-Water
-Rain gear
-Cold weather gear
-Camera
-Folding chairs

What else is recommended?
AT tires and a 'can do' attitude! Oh, don't forget the sunscreen, bug spray and warm weather gear.

Last year, in mid September, my wife and I took our old stock 06 Grand Cherokee out to the San Juans. The fall color was spectacular and the Jeep with a bum transfercase (the reason we sold it) took us up and over a few trails. We only saw one other vehicle at Animas Forks, it was like we had the San Juans to our selves. I only mention this incase someone can't make it in July. I'll be back in early to mid September if anyone wants to tag along :)

I did the same thing last year. After HIH, went home for a week and went right back up there. It was amazing. We rented those Polaris Razors a couple days and covered so much area. Going slow in the Landcruiser is best though.

Thanks for the tips! I most likely would have forgotten the sun screen and bug spray.

I believe I have my truck more than adequately equipped. 33" KO2 tires, sliders and front bumper. I will have a rear bumper also if Dissent gets their design worked out in time.

Another newcomer (down the street from you cbenowen) looking into this.

I'd love to come some year, but this summer on those dates my L.C. will be doing hard time hauling my camper through the northern rockies on a 5500 mile round trip to Oregon and back. Keep this going in 2017!

I am trying to sell my wife on this, I apologize for asking without reading the whole thread: my rig is stock with slightly larger tires. I have wheeling experience (early bronco), can My rig do this event?

List of must upgrades?

We have had completely stock 100s attend this event. With the exception of Poughkeepsie Gulch, all trails are doable in a stock 100. A set of A/T tires and a CB are the only "must haves" for the other trails.

Thanks! Now to convince wife! Do most camp? Camp some/hotel some?

Is there a way to bypass/skip the most difficult sections? (Thinking about my wife here...

Most camp, but there are always some that get a hotel too. There are always a few that camp one night and try to get a room for the other nights, but there is a VERY good chance that every room within an hour will be booked by the time the event starts.

Poughkeepsie has a bypass for the wall, but the other sections do not. All the other trails have optional lines, but do not need to be bypassed. There are no bypasses for the exposed sections on any of the trails. You will be close to the edge on almost every trail.

I wasn't expecting a CB to be a must have! Might have to look into getting one installed this spring...

I'll discuss with y wife and see how she feels, but I would love to make it out. I recently moved out of CO and I really miss those views.

CB is mandatory. There are too many areas where we need to relay info back through the group and communication is essential. A handheld CB is fine as long as it works. Because I mostly use HAM radio when I'm traveling, my CB setup is a pretty basic unit. It's a Uniden 510XL and a Wilson Little Wil mag mount antenna. It works great and costs less than $100 for everything. I have it setup so I can quickly remove it when I don't need it in the truck.
