Toyota spark plug wires

Seems I have acquired 3 sets of of Toyota spark plug wires, all in Toyota bags seemingly unused. All 3 sets are labeled "YAZAKI" the manufacturer.

90919-21005 has straight ends at cap and at the spark plugs.
90919-21277 has angled ends.
81561-60080 has angled ends.

The pictured dissy is a 79-80 USA dissy.
It doesn't look too good inside, unfortunately. :frown:

Note the end of the vac advance rod, where it slides in & out of the brass bushing. It looks like rusted steel stuck in green corrosion. If that can be freed up, and the vac advance actually holds vacuum, it's a winner.

The starter is for 73-earlier. It does not have the ballast bypass terminal on the solenoid.

FJ60 transmission support crossmember

Thanks, Jim C.

Here's another bit coming with me on the train back to the FJ55: a FJ60 T/C support member. From slot center to slot center is about 20.5".

In order to come up with a transmission and transfer case support, I'm thinking I can cut this up and weld it to the stock crossmember that came with the split case transfer that is being put in the FJ55. One FJ60 crossmember is not wide enough to bridge the two frame rails of the FJ55, maybe two merged to one can be made to work it out.

I think this one is ever so slightly different from the one that came with the T/C. I'll confirm that tomorrow.

Jim C., that's good to know. I'd love to punt on coming up with a transfer case cross support solution before getting this truck moving. I've been waffling on whether punting is wise but now with what you're saying and some Web researching it is sounding completely fine.

I found this post from you as well:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/showpost.php?p=1953469&postcount=8:
"sometime in 84 Land Cruisers started shipping w/ the long 4speed that looks like a H55. "

The 2F+H42+splitT/C I am putting in the FJ55 came from a 1984 FJ60 but I do not know what month.

Here's what I have on hand:

attachment.php

Top is '84 FJ60's transmission and transfer case, each four speed. Bottom is 6/72 FJ55 with the 3 speed tranny and non-split case T/C.

That doesn't look "long" like an H55:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/624780-h55.html

So, I'm guessing what I have is a "short H4X" before they went to the "long" a few months later.

Chris,

The H55 5 speed is longer than the older 4 speed. I like to over build stuff and would use a transmission brace.

That's only 81-84 split cases AND H55s?

Would that hold true for a '82 split case and new H55?

(If that's just an utterly ignorant question, consider the source.....)
You're on a transition there, you really need to determine what you've got. The 8/'80 - 10/'82 split case has a 34mm idler and no provision for a 5th gear oiler, the 10/'82 - ~'83 is the same with an oiler provision, and the ~'83 - '4/86 the exact same with a spacer bolt hole you will need to cap for a H55 swap. So you could have one of two cases knowing it's an '82, hopefully it's the later one else it's no good to you :frown: I've got a 10/'82 case FWIW -

You can determine what you've got with this info:

Correct, the "long" refers to them adding the extension housing that encases the 5th gear (w/o the actual gear in this case). You can use that crossmember, but don't really need to ;)

Tucker

Well, then I think I have a plan for the T/C support corssmember: for now do nothing more on that front. I'll just use the 4 stock motor mount points on the frame, connecting 2 at the front dog legs and 2 on the flywheel housing.

As discussed earlier, this FJ60 flywheel housing I have has been tapped to work with the stock FJ55 motor mounts, so good to go for now:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/showpost.php?p=8928862&postcount=141

Later, I will add a cross member when I add an overdrive making the gear train longer and heavier. Last week I found in my parts stash what I guess is an Advanced Adaptor Ranger III, attached to a 4 speed transmission I got from a fellow MUDder.

I'll have to learn about these. It seems like it is closely related to AA's #760024M-27:
http://www.advanceadapters.com/prod...er-4-speed-range-torque-spliter-overdrive-27/

So I will do nothing now and soon add in the Ranger when the truck and the overdrive are in the same city, and install a crossmember at that time.

Today's main Land Cruisers activity was a side project: bring an FJ60 back to life after it had been sitting outside for the winter. It turned out to be good application of all this 2F learning. Much tinkering but a fuel filter and a gallon of gas was all it took, plus a few terse squirts of starting fluid.

Initially, I could see fluids moving inside the filter but the carb sight gas looked empty. Before replacing the filter, the engine would start, crank along at 2K for about 30 seconds, and then suddenly stumble dead. Swapped the filter, then a bit of cranking to fill the filter and it was a happy truck except for being surprising thoroughly stuck in 4 ice ruts.

I'd never driven an FJ60 before. I liked it.

Carquest had two filters, but only in the paper "database" not the computer. Delux (clear on the left) was about five bucks.

FJ60 transfer case support cross members

So, I just dragged this blue one 500 miles for nothing. But for the record, there seems to be minor variants of these FJ60 cross members which go under the transfer case and support the rear of the engine and gear boxes. The black one is from 84; the blue one's date is unknown but it looks like an earlier iteration than the black one.

Wow, that is tricky.

Do you think the difference has to do with the short 4 spd vs. the long 4 spd?
