I've always wanted to see how the drive shaft was routed on those old rear drive units. It seems they were only offered in the 1960's (?)

On my 47, the gas tank and the spare tire blocks quite a bit of the way. I could see some sort of 3-section pto drive shaft snaking its way out there.

There are also those regular-mount pto drives with front and rear outputs, but again, i've never seen the drive shaft set up illustrated and as Amaurer points out, its not listed in the EPC either.

The clip I posted above was from the 1975 HJ45 EPC, so it definitely was available well into the 70's. However beyond the PTO gearboxes, the EPC is mum for that year... odd.

Regarding your HJ47, however, I have never seen anything about the center or rear PTO being offered for a 1979+ truck, which is when the gas tank moved beneath the floor. Frankly I think its impossible to use a rear PTO on the later trucks, or at least any driveshaft solution that works would have been far too ghetto for Toyota to sell it. (Actually, looking closely, it seems the "standard" PTO box did have the dual F/R outputs up through 1982... but that output is in an even worse position wrt the gas tank than the "Center" PTO we're discussing is... my guess is that Toyota just kept selling the same old PTO box even when the rear output became useless)

under the general market 69-80 fj40,fj55,bj40, hj45
lists a rear PTO for the 69-75 fj40 doesn't list a HJ45  i never looked at the year or model .

What vehicle did you search on?? The Drive Shaft heading contains only front pto shaft into for the HJ45 I'm looking at.

??

Some day my pto will have a rear shaft back to the bumper, for what...I don't know yet :D
