I ran into this unit in Laos and thought you'd appreciate it (if you haven't already circulated photos like this). the trucks are outfitted with a pto driven core sampling drill, massive springs and all the goodies. they are obviously from Australia. Anyway, hope you enjoy.

Cool pics. This cruiser is from Perth judging by the name of the dealer;)
Those heavy duty springs allow them to carry another 500kg . Its unusual to use another colour besides white.

I find it a little hard to tell the details of the pto drive output - is it taken directly off the back of the transfer case, like some of the fire trucks, or is it taken off the side of the transfer case like most pto units in cruisers?

The landcruisers PTO all come off the LH side . The shaft normally goes to the front to run a winch but this one is heading to rear by the looks of it.
I think they can be made to exit the side of the vehicle.

Im kind of surprised to see a pto ,most of them run an electric motor to power hydraulic pumps these days.

That's 99% true, but the firetrucks also had this type of pto gearbox, which came right off the back of the transfer case (they had models to suit 3, 4, and even 5-speed trans applications):


Ive seen those type too. Is that a hydraulic pump?
Ive also seen them coming off the front of the crank shaft.
