I believe you need a different flywheel...you could do with a R151F...not sure how you would call them there (or if you get them) over here are Hilux or Vigo elsewhere, they have the transmission your rig uses, only replace the bellhousing...the H151F is meant for the 1HD-T engine, the R151F is for the 1HZ or the 1FZ-FE...the 300mm clutch could be from an Isuzu truck (can´t remember the model)...you will have a fun time with the reverse light switch...

Bump. Any updates?

Don't know how I missed this the first time around, but subscribed.

And to respond to @baldilocks comment earlier, there really is a significant power difference between auto and manual. At least with theses 90's vintage 4-speeds. Driving over the divide in my 5 speed 4runner was a completely different experience compared to the same drive in an auto 4runner. The transmission doesn't sap up nearly as much power and you have better gear selection for the specific speed/load at any given time. By the butt dyno, felt like I had a good 20% more power, same engine, similar tires, etc.

The automatic transmissions do suck up some power, but personally, I would never go back to a manual transmission for wheeling. I wheeled with a clutch for 40 years and I’m done with that.

^^^ Part of why I drive an auto now :) Definitely helps you enjoy the scenery and the line not having to do the three-pedal tap dance. That and sciatica. :(

I’m looking forward to eventually converting mine to manual. Even though I’m middle aged now and not getting any younger, my plan is to always stay fit and healthy so the “need” for an automatic will be a long long way off.

I'm chasing 70 and I am physically fine with driving a clutch on or off road. On the other hand I am tired of trying to 3-pdeal a clutch off road. It is SO much easier and smoother to 2-pedal an automatic in the rocks. NO CONTEST!! The most common thing I hear when workin my rig thru the good stuff is " Ya sure as hell made THAT look easy!!"

360 degree gearboxes in Aus also modify the H151's for a taller fifth. My manual on 35's sits at 2200rpm at 100kph it would drop to around 1800 which would be sweet but I'm waiting for my box to go 'bang', which it hasn't done after 3 years yet behind the 6.0LS.
But in the bush with the transfer reduction gears, 1st in a manual is a rarely used gear. Too slow....

That's my plan too but I think I am reading the instructions upside down!

Any updates?
Below is the ECU I found on Ebay Australia. But it is not OBD2.

I found a place where people are talking about this.
Siliconfish: Spoofing OBDII to pass emissions test

Maybe find an Electrical Engineer to design a spoof box of some kind.

Retitle your vehicle as a non obd-2 LC and use ECU pictured above?

Register with family out of state?

Leave California?

I agree with you on this when it comes to installing a Toyota manual because first gear isn't low enough. Now, if we only had an adapter to put an NV4500 or even the NV5600 behind the 1fz I would seriously consider converting and tackling the trails with three pedals again. Putting additional power on the ground for road travel would be icing on the cake.
