BTW ASCO = Aisin Seiki Corporation. Asco hubs are Aisins. Just that the early hubs the company opted to use ASCO and later changed to Aisin...

Very cool. Thanks for the info!

Little bit of progress. Two rims are done, one is all mounted up. The powdercoating is browner than I would have guessed, but I like it.

The motor mounts showed up yesterday so I'll get to mounting the engine once I get the frame sitting back level again. The trans crossmember got here, but no trans mount so I ordered a new one. It'll be here this afternoon.

Trans mount and crossmember will work perfectly. Just got to put in some angle to hold the crossmember and it's done. The motor mounts are at just a bit of a wrong angle. I thought about making a wedge shim to make up the difference, but it would be just about easier and cooler to make up new frame side mounts my own self. I hope to get the body set back on tomorrow so I can finalize the bracket locations.

Set the body on today. Glad I did rather than just measure. I'll know for sure that everything will fit now and what I have to work with.

#1 engine from the front, no clip.
#2 the floor needed some clearancing. Nothing huge. I just have to build a little more on the trans cover. Rough cut it with the plasma because it's easy to cut a little at a time. Will clean it up now that we know how much to cut.
#3. Body on. No front clip.

Ron Davis makes an amazing radiator, with a built in shroud and a nice electric fan, with relays for temp. I used a chevy radiator, but they have just about anything you could imagine, or you could even go custom.

Ryan.

Yep. Either going to have to use a 80 radiator and offset shroud or an electric fan. Probably the latter as there isn't much room left.

I was really impressed with the Ron Davis radiator! They will definitely be getting my business in the future. And they were pretty reasonable with the fan and wiring. It looks like the price has gone up since I bought mine though they are now $500, for the radiator, fan, thermostat, and relays.

Ryan.

Good to know. I've used an ebay company called flattrackthunder a couple of times. They are pretty no frills aluminum rads, but they are very cheap.

Went in for a couple of hours today. Got the motor mounts both built and powder coated. Tomorrow I have to tweak one a little and burn em in. The 80 cross member is flat on the frame rails, so all it'll need is a couple of angle mounts and it's in.

Still no pics.

Both motor mounts are done and welded in. C-clamped the trans crossmember in so I can get it off the floor jack and now it rolls around the shop. I'll get it on the hoist to get the trans cross member attached. I can do that now that the engine isn't tied to the chain fall.

Started doing a bit of experimenting on how I want to strip the interior paint. Sand blasting gonna be a mess. Chemical stripper is no fun either. Hand scuffing and painting over the olive drab might be the way to go.

Body work sucks. Between not wanting to do it and the ton of work at the shop, I've made little progress. I really want to get the sheet metal work done before it comes home with me over the summer.

Picked up a engine and trans on Friday. It has just about every little part I need short of an intake hose and MAF. The engine has a rod knock, but the trans is good. It'll make a fine back up until I find out if my rebuild was any good.

Now that I know how nice it fits I might have to put a 1FZ in a 40 or 45 pick up next.

#1 33s are going to fit nice. All 4 rims are sandblasted and powder coated.

Gumby,

1. what tires/size are you running? The look like they fit well.
2. what wheels did you use?
3. tell me about those wheel carts you are using. I need some. Where and how much $. Recommend them?

yes, body work does suck at times, but very rewarding.

Thanks

I know a 40 that could use a little more power than the TBI 2F that is in it.:D

The wheels are stock LC powdercoated Eastwood "charcoal"

The wheel dollys are just Harbor Freight. They suck for wheel carts, but they are way better than not having them.

The lexus sc400 uses a hydraulic fan. That might afford you the room you need.
