Are these stock springs with 33's or are they lift springs?

31's looked tight to me on stock springs.

No updates. The shop is closed for the summer so I brought it home, then spent a week finishing the garage so I could work in the AC. Then spent a month traveling back and forth with a family thing. The plan is to get started tomorrow.

Get to work!

You want me to work on the 45 or the pig and tow rig?

I dont really care, but with your summers off id think you can get to all 3...im not sayin, im just sayin.

Im thinking about Puting the 80 series drive train in a stretched 40. Yours is the only thread I could find that compares. Id love to see detailed photos. How close are you to the firewall? how did the motor mounts turn out? what kind of distance to you have between your oil pan and front diff.?

Just back from a week of wheeling. I'll get out in the garage in the next couple of days and take some measurements and pics.

It's a great drivetrain and it's right for a Cruiser, but I think it might be too long for a 40.

My 40 will be stretched 16" :D

A little progress today.

Got it out of my garage at home where I hoped for a year I would find it a nice thing to do in the evenings or during the summer and took it back to the shop.
45s.webp

Got it all emptied out today and took the doors off. I'm gonna get in it with the sand blaster and I wasn't going to risk the glass. Getting excited to get moving on it again.

Good for you on getting some stuff done. How did the hinge pins cooperate? I can't get mine out. Heat, PBB and a BFH and I got one to go up about 4mm. It's really frustrating. I'd love to get at least the drivers door off.

Scott ,gumbys lv was the first Landcruiser I bought back in 94,it is to this day the most solid rust free lv I have ever seen! I would buy it back today, I bought it from the original owner, not surprised the doors came right off!!

It's way solid. Little spots on the roof inside and out is about it. I didn't drive the pins out. LV doors unbolt very easily at the hinges.

Man you are lucky to have such a clean LV. So you aren't going to replace the hinge bushings then?

Also, if and when you have some time can you post a pic of your rear wheel wells. It looks like they have been cut open a bit. Did Whitey do that?

If I replace them, I'll unbolt both sides so I can put tehm in a vise and use heat if I need to.

Duh. I could have done all 8 by now with the time I spent trying to hold a punch upside down:bang: I probably would have never thought of that. So simple it hurts. Thanks.

I'm thinking of cutting the wheelwells and yours look pretty good. It's a tough decision though. I regret cutting on my 40.

They were like that when I got it. I've debated about making new ones.

The hinge bushings are fine. If I replace them, I'll unbolt both sides so I can put tehm in a vise and use heat if I need to.

And not have to swing a hammer upward, which kinda defeats the purpose, especially when you are swinging less than an inch from paint.

Scott, original owner cut the fenders in the early 70's to clear some big bad ass 32'' nordsmans! LOL I always thought it looked ok, but I would not cut yours, you will regret it in the long run.If you do give the pieces to gumby!!!
