383?

why does everyone have such a problem with this? there is a 86 p/u in my dads shop that is bein built with the exact same thing that im askin about. im leanin more towards a 38 anyway but why is this so far fetched? and when i am able to do what i want to my truck it wont be all at once, i will probably just do the SAS this summer and some body work because i slid about 50 into another vehicle so my fender is just slightly bent up. but if i wanted to do it all in one summer it could easily be done. yall really think that a 383 with 14 bolt in rear and dana 60 up front will break turnin a 38inch tsl? im sure your gonna point out that i will probably end up snappin alot of driveshafts so im gonna ask if there would be a drive shaft that can handle that abuse?

What I was further trying to convey (although in a very subtle way) is that I do understand that your mind is made up and no one is going to change it, therefore, just go and do it. I don't understand why you would drop a 350 into a Mini Truck but, hey; that's your business. It can and has been done.

As I said earlier....you're wasting time. We're all waiting to see the results.

Look ToyotaNick I don' t know how old you are or what you know about engines and fabrication. If your asking if it can be done then yes, it has many times. As I stated before my brother has a 350 w/ 350 turbo trany. He is running Toyota stock axles and drivelines w/ 33x15.5x15 Swamper TSL/SX's. He hasn't busted anything yet (well other than the trany). He doesn't wheel like mad hell but he does wheel with it.
Honest opinion, I have a 383 in my FJ60 Landcruiser. Its a little built and I think thats too much power for such a light truck. I think a stock 350 is probably too much too but my brother enjoys it. When I had a toyota pickup to increase power my plan (as stated above) was to put a 5mge Toyota Creseda motor in it.

Why don't you say a little more about yourself, what you want to do with it, what your experience is with vehicles/engines/fabrication. We have ALL done things that others think are stupid but we often have reasons for what we do. Mine was for towing trailers up Oregons mountains (might have helped a little with spraying everyone else with just a little more mud ;).

haha thats a pretty good reason for more power and that is one of my reasons. you see the big chevy's with the duramax diesel's that have rediculous amounts of power and just throw mud all over the place and yes thats what i want. we have a place around here called duhon's (do-yon's) mud hole , dont make the n on duhons very prominant you kinda just slide over that letter haha. but yeah well thats basically where all of the cooter country guys go with there big chevy's and there pretty cool built mud trucks. other than it bein a huge whole that you can easily lose a 44inch bogger in and probably be half way up the body of your truck, its also a mud drag which is basically the proving grounds. now i know that i have absolutely nothing to prove to these goons cause i can walk around most of the basically stock big trucks with relative ease but i still want to whips some ass in the drag!

even though i say i really wanna go 383 i probably wont because of the fact that its an 8 thousand dollar engine and im sure a tranny that will hold up behind an engine like that wont be too cheap either. im most likely gonna go the logical way and just get a TPI 350 with turbo 350 tranny and maybe have the computer done at street and performance... but you know that it would be badass to see a 1990 toyota extended cab pickup with a 383 in it with atlas 2 transfer case and even though there is no way i could afford it, unimog axles. maybe one day that will happen but probably not anytime soon! haha

isn't a 383 just a bigger cam or is it bored out a little? like a thousanth over or somethin like that?

It's a 350 block .030 over with a 400 crank.

I don't understand why you are set on the 383. You might as well build a 454 big block, or throw a 502 in there if you are all about power.

Seriously, how much money have you "come into"? If you tell us your budget for the project, we can determine feasibility.

well the reason i would rather go with a 383 is because it will actually fit in the engine compartment with out to much modification. but a 454 or 502, there is no fricken way! and i just said that ill probably just go with a tpi 350...

i should be gettin somewere 25 grand at the end of the summer but i just to put around 8500 into my truck, and that really isnt that much but what it will work for what i want to do now. since im only in hich school ill probably just fourlink the front and do a dana 44 and 38's with the stock 3vze (3.slow) but i did slide into the back of another vehicle 2 months ago so im gonna do some body work that i have been wantin to do with most of the money like repaint the truck and do a few other things.

i will be puttin the rest of the money towards college

Motor: $4000 + Install
Tranny $2000 + Install
T-case $1500, more if Atlas
Rear D60 $3000
Front HPD60 $3000+ (Forget the D44, you'll just break it)
New suspension $2000 in parts minimum
New steering--$1500

Labor--$ky is the limit
Body work---Limit is higher than the $ky
6 months down time or more

Numbers are pulled out of my estimating cap, but you get the point.

You need a much bigger budget or a better plan. How about leave the truck alone, get the body work done, and put 100% of the remainder towards college. That amount that sonds like a lot will cover less than 1 year of post high school education.

Really not that much of a departure from the nightmare you want:confused:

yup, X2

cuz your mileage is STILL GONNA SUCK with what you got planned....uh, poorly planned I might say.....

I just payed 500 for this, I think for a short term it would be a hellofa lot better place to start than putting 8500 in your rig now.....

i dont meen to sound like a little kid that uses his dad for everything but in this case i probably definatelly would, because of the people he knows and the deals he gets that would save me alot of money and all of the labor for example: putting the engine in, wiring it, and linkin the front suspension will be done by me with a little help from my dad cause he has waaaay more experience welding perches and things like that than i am. the only thing that i will have done out of house is the body work which is just replacing both front quarter panels and the hood and probably painting the truck.

o yeah and im really not worried about gas mileage. there is no way that i can get worse than the 7 mpg i get right now while tryin to keep up with traffic. thats pushin that truck to take off at the light and keep up with everyone

There is no way you get 7 mpg with your truck as is. I have a 350 in my fj40 with 35s. The engine is pushing 300 hp and I stay on it a lot. I get 9mpg at least.

Are you converting the mileage due to your oversize tires? FYI, if you don't have the speedometer corrected for larger tires, when the odometer says that you have gone 100 miles, you have actually driven more than 100 miles.

fyi- my speedometer is spot on with my actual mph. and yes i have averaged it out and i get somewere around 9 or 8 mpg

I guess its the fact you dont have any solid info posted on your rig, or that you have 37's on it or what (all I could find)

But I dont buy it.

alright i have a limited slip with from what i remember 529's in the rear. i have 37x12.5x15 superswampers with a 3.slow under the hood. i have mx-6 shoxs in the rear and an older procomp shock in the front. i also have 529's in the front differential. i have put on manual hubs, ummm what else do you wanna know? iput a warn front bumper on the front with a 6k lb warn winch. it has 6 explorer procomp lights. i changed the rear outer seals on both sides. i greased both cv's and changed the boots. i actually had to build the brackets for the warn bumper because they dont make brackets for a 3 inch body. it has a 4 inch superlift suspension and 3 inch body. i put a flex-a-light electric fan and since they don't make a complete cold air intake for it so all i have is the k&n filter. i have changed the alternator and starter and put a kinetic audio battery. i really do not think that there is anything else i can tell you about it other that the audio that is inside of it but thats just irrelivant.

alright since all of you hate what i am gonna do to my truck why don't you tell me what i should do? and why i should do it that way.
