Your trail leader Ray Hancock will be reaching out to everyone on that run here soon . I can not speak for Ray but it’s possible that a small group breaks off and runs little sluice and then meets back up with the main group. Before you get to Buck island . This is something you can talk to him about . If things go well on Wed I am going to try and run up to Buck in the late afternoon And 90 percent sure I will be up there Early Thursday morning to help get everyone out of Buck island. As that tends to be a huge jam. And with the wagon run having a large group that’s going to take a bit of work . More than likely I will just Watch. And cheer you on
Wednesday evening sounds like a good time to break these in a bit more...

There is nothing really tight on Fordyce . And there is a bypass for winch hill 1. If you don’t think you are up to it. . I think they give you a I drive a Jeep shirt at the top of the bypass 🤷‍♂️.

I might be convinced to do Fordyce. Most of my group can’t take off as long as me. Will have to see.

Wow... Mark is coming to Rubithon... From NY! Epic.

We actually have many trails here in CA but most folks always want to jump into the Rubicon.
Others worthy of the trip include Deer Valley and Slick Rock... same Sierra granite but less technical.
There is the Gold Lakes area which has many trails of varying difficulty including an OHV only campground.
I will note, that I believe Fordyce to be much more difficult than the Rubicon as the Con has been manipulated to accommodate 4 door jeeps, and long jeep 4 door trucks; coupled with a high law enforcement presence, has pushed all the shenanigans over to Fordyce.
If you run Rubicon with ease, then jump over to Fordyce... if you spank both, we have Johnson Valley where you are guaranteed to break your junk.

also Mark, I will be caretaker in the Springs for the 4th of July week directly after Rubithon. You are welcome to hang out in the Springs, avoid the Sunday onslaught of Cadillac Hill, and enjoy the Rubicon with barely anyone around. I have found this week to be extremely quiet.

I also excited to learn that Bruce Schoff will be returning to Rubithon from CO. Many will remember Bruce as being lead Medic during my tenure as Chairman and I know from my visit to his house last summer on the Manly Man run that he still has his Chairman's Award hung proudly.

Looking forward to meeting Mark and seeing Bruce in his 40 again!

Thanks Tony, meeting the people behind the names that I've "known" in the TLCA community starting in 1999 is one of the motivators for this trip. Regarding hanging at the Springs... we would need to plan for that as we'll be stocking up/fueling based on the "normal" Rubicon. We do hope to get onto 2-3 extra days on a trail and Fordyce seems to be close. Difficulty Rubicon+ is the idea... but not +++

My 40 is basically stock with with some stickers on it and it can do Fordyce .

Mark, I would seriously consider Tony's offer to hang out after, it is pin drop quiet and there are spur trails on the Rubicon you can explore, RTF property & it;s trail system, Long Lake trail ( Favorite day run ) , Barker Pass, safe travels, see you soon.

So just to be clear, @woytovich is a bit of a dick.
I, on the other hand, am nothing but sunshine and rainbows.

We are both planning on coming out together and have registered for the wagon run, assuming the Sierras are not on fire or some other natural disaster ensues.
Both of us are new to the Rubicon, but very experienced wheelers in general. Not afraid of difficult trails, but I'll be driving my Lexus round trip. Mark will be trailering his 40 cause he's a pu**y and doesn't want to drive 6K miles round trip with no hard top.

All kidding aside, there are some questions that I would like answers to.
What is the bathroom situation on the trail. At my age, that's a consideration not to be taken lightly.
Are there strict morning departures on the trail days, or can we have a nice leisurely breakfast and go at our own pace?
I ask because we tend to wheel slower than most, taking our time through obstacles and playing around as we spot each other trying to get each other into stupid positions. I have no issues with being last in line.

There are Bathrooms along the trail . But i still suggest having your own portable one if needed . As far as strict departure times Yes . When you have a large group it important to keep people moving . We have multiple runs coming in at different times We do this to try and keep traffic jams down . Your trail leader will set your second day departure time and we ask that you stay with your group . You guys will be leaving from Loon lake and i would suggest arriving the evening before . your Group will leave at the specified time . Generally speaking your first day you guys should get into Buck Island around 5 pm . On day 2 if you leave around 8 am you should get into the springs in the early afternoon . You have a full run this year but most have run the Rubicon .

Just a side note I know there has been talk of you guys running Fordyce after and there are no bathrooms on that trail . Mark said he can easily Run Fordyce but feels you will struggle terribly . Not sure what he ment by that ? Something about your station wagon :hmm:

As Hannibal Lecter once said, "She's a big girl. Roomy through the hips." But I can still carry more stuff from Home Depot while drinking a latte.

Isn't it a run requirement that every vehicle carry a bucket and wag bags (or similar)? If it isn't it should be.
Yes .

Dont tell anyone But we all make these trails sound like they are harder than they really are . :steer:

Honestly, I'm not all that concerned with the trail difficulty. It's more the experience that I'm looking forward to.
Having wheeled up and down the east coast and as far west as Moab, the Sierra Nevada mountains are the next logical stop.
The Rubicon has been on my bucket list for the last 20 years or so. And after coming out on the positive side of some pretty serious health issues, I see no reason to postpone this any longer.
To echo what Mark stated earlier, it would be nice to place faces with names.

In any case, we're still working out the logistics, but it's looking good so far.
