Good thing you got yer reflection, I would of walked right by you. It's Santa Claus.

I'm signed up! First timer doing Rubicon! I have a few dumb questions.

  • I'm currently signed up for the Wednesday Wagon Run. I may need to switch to the Thursday Breakfast Run. Is this possible? How would I go about this change if needed (I'm guessing there are only so many slots per run)?
  • The runs appear to camp at Buck Island then next day to Rubicon Springs and out on Sunday. What happens on the days we are at Rubicon Springs? Wheeling around the area and back to camp? Guessing small groups go off on their own? Or are people just hanging around camping at the Springs during that time?
  • I'm hoping dogs are allowed?
  • I had signed up for two people in my vehicle but I don't know who that individual will be yet. Will I be able to add that person later once confirmed? I think this was needed for insurance purposes?

If anyone from the Denver area is heading out I would love to caravan with you all. I've typically done a 2 day drive from CO to CA; not sure if you guys try to do it all in one day lol. If two days I typically camp in BLM somewhere between Ely and Austin. 70 -> 50 is a much more scenic drive vs 80 the whole way. :p

Awesome! You're gonna have a good time. It's always exciting to have new people come out to this.

So this happens occasionally where your schedule conflicts with your run. If that's the case, you should email chairman@rubithon.com. The breakfast run includes a breakfast in their registration, so that may be a wash for you, but Jeff will sort that out with you.

In the Springs is where the event is. Thursday is a bit of a more relaxing day, but there will be things going on that day. There will be things to look at and exploring the Springs property is a lot of fun. Friday there is a vendor show, the evening has live music and then the bar opens as well. Saturday will have vendor displays again and more live music, along with competitions you can enter, like the RC tournament or horseshoe competition. Saturday night is the dinner and raffle as well. @Firemedic831 will chime in with more details I'm sure.

Dogs are allowed! It wouldn't be much fun without my 4 legged buddy. On the Springs property however, you must keep your dog on a leash. They really appreciate it when we follow their rules, and there aren't many.

Adding a person shouldn't be an issue depending on how soon you know. Again, emailing the chairman with those details is best.

There are always people rolling from or through Colorado. Hopefully you can connect with a group on your drive. If you see me out there, come say hi!

Myself and 3 others are heading out of Denver. We're all towing and plan to take 80 (i think) the entire way.
We haven't made those plans yet.

Thank you @AgentOrange ! Emailed chairman and got everything I needed. Should have just done that to begin with. lol. Looking forward to the event!

@ajordan1975 lets keep in touch. Would be great to roll out with a crew.

I’m part of A using Sun if you know who they are….

b16 there are no dumb questions, only dumb answers.

if you are traveling from CO, you might just appreciate a relaxing day in the Springs. While I do not know your experience level, the 37s indicate you might like to actually engage the Lexus... sweet. Yes, there is a trip to Long Lake you can take for some additional wheeling and if you are really zealous and can find some other attendees of like mind (the place is ripe with 'em), you could wheel the recently opened RTF Loop, an additional 3 miles of in your face granite. However, please be mindful of organized runs still entering the Springs on Thursday and Friday. It can cause minor chaos (and some frustration for those still trying to enter the Springs) when a bunch of trucks are traveling in the reverse direction. Saturday finds all sorts of folks going all different directions.

On the other hand, often experienced folks find the 7 miles into the Springs more than adequate to quench their thirst. (hard to believe the entire trail is only 12 miles long.) if this is the case for you, then Friday and Saturday offer you two great days to take in everything Rubicon Springs has to offer. The property is 300+ acres and the trail only bisects the property. As AgentOrange notes, you can hike out to Stonehouse where a surveyor and his family lived 3 seasons of the year in the 50s. You can swim, fish and catch crawdads in the river (there is also otter and beaver to be seen if you are quiet and look). You can walk and explore the 6 primary camping areas (Main Camp, Bridgecamp, VIP, Slabs, Mog Camp and Dirty Dozen). You can take it easy and simply place your chair in the river, take your shoes off and enjoy the beautiful day and scenary. It will go fast...

Especially if you capitalize on the various activities and opportunities Jeff and his team have assembled. Friday Morning I'll teach you to gold pan in the river near Dirty Dozen, probably no gold as this area is not known for gold but hope springs eternal. :) They will have vendors and classes available in the afternoon and ideally some music entertainment that evening. Saturday has RC competition and horseshoes, both of which are fun to participate or just watch. Tours will be offered (yes, there was a hotel here in the late 1800s). Usually all the raffle items are displayed for viewing and showcasing our event sponsors and the kitchen crew is getting ready to bust out 300+ dinners. Don't forget your utensils.

Then things get real busy... trying to figure out how you are going to carry all of your ill gotten goodies back to camp. Pack up camp and get ready for a Cadillac Hill departure Sunday Morning. Yum!

Yes, there is a third possibility... you break hard and spend your entire weekend limping into camp, searching for parts and a welder and barely getting out Sunday wondering how the heck you are going to travel back to CO. We don't like to talk about that possibility much but the good news is you could receive an award for your hard luck or carnage.

Either way, you are going to have a great time and meet a bunch of new friends! I look forward to meeting you personally.

I’m up 285 in Bailey. I just moved to CO last March, moved from the Bay Area CA. Love it out here!!

I recently joined Rising Sun after running into them at Slaughterhouse on Father’s Day. Great group, need to do more events with them!

Thank you! This is super helpful. I consider myself fairly experienced. I’ve been through Slick Rock at least a dozen times along with Deer Valley and Moab a bunch of times. I do like to beat on the rig a bit. I’ll be carrying a few spares and welding rod just in case. 😂

Don't forget about the horseshoe tourney, the final rounds have become quite the spectate & heckle show, it's anyones game. We are gonna rupi Goat this year.

Horseshoe tourney was definitely a blast. Whole trip was as well as it was first time for myself last year. Too bad won’t be able to defend bragging rights championship. Maybe next year

Maybe Larry will put on a show for us, when he gets hot he will take you to school at shoes.

So a few have talked about running Fordyce after Rubithon . I have a friend coming out from TX that wants to run Fordyce after . If this happens I will stay down a extra 2 days to run it . My guess is we would start Late Sunday afternoon or Early Monday since getting everyone out of the Rubicon is priority first . Also we will have to watch the river flows as we get closer .

I’d like to know if this would be a good event for my situation.

A little background, my wife and I used to do a little wheeling a few years back (on a 3rd gen 4Runner with a mild lift on 33s, nothing hardcore). Fast forward, we now have a 2 y.o. son, and the 4Runner is now on one tons and 40s.

We want to do the Rubicon together as a family this summer, but we’ve never done the trail before so we’d like to do it with others that know the trail decently well. I decided to look into various events and came across Rubithon.

So I have a few questions about the event before registering.
1- How crowded does the event get? (We’d like to stay away from the partying/drinking/crowds)
2- Is this event family friendly (good for a 2 y.o. boy who loves being outside and being around “big trucks”, obviously under intense supervision)?
3- Which “Run” would be best for us? (We want to maximize camping time, and hopefully be around other young families with small kids)

Thanks in advance!

We have anywhere from 100-200 registration . Its not crowed . When you consider a event like Jeepers Jamboree will have 800 plus . . Rubithon is very Family oriented . We have have alot for the kids with Movie night / Gold panning / Rc cars ect ect . To maximize your camping i would Suggest either the Wagon Run or the Breakfast run . I think there is 1 spot open for the Wagons still . While we will have a live band Fri night and the bar will be open Its definitely not a raging party . I hope you join us would love to have you .

So, not the last minute yet? Good.
I bet it's snowing pretty good up there right this minute
Snow is only at 66" at the SNOTEL site at Rubicon Peak, but they did get 16" on Thursday the 13th, but still well below the last couple years at this time. If the rest of March isn't full of cold storms and April is average, there won't be anything to even mention on the Cadillac side

Everything @Firemedic831 said is just right. I began bringing my boys when they were 6 and 9 and realize I could have been wheeling out there with them far younger. Watching them sleep through fun obstacles was hilarious to me

One of the best family events at a reasonable cost with great people. There are great swimimng holes and the river runs right thru Rubicon Springs, we have a raffle that is specific to the kids and is set up so all get something & there are a few grand prizes for them. I understand this year will have ice cream available for dessert.
