I have a 2f in a 1978 fj40 that was rebuilt by PO in 2012. The engine may have 100 miles on it. Now the oil is getting water in it. I am thinking pulling the head and redoing the head gasket and then go from there. What would you guys recommend? Thank You

Someone here mentioned a 'water-in-oil' problem on a Caterpillar 'dozer engine, and found out the leak wasn't the head gasket but a freeze plug in the head, under the valve cover.

Have you pulled the valve cover? I did a 78 head where as soon as I pulled the VC off I could see a crack next to one of the rocker stands.

I had a freeze plug leaking under the valve cover. First tip was losing antifreeze. Kept searching for a leak, then I noticed a lot of condensation under the oil filler cap. I had to pull the rocker assembly to get good access to replacing it. Easier than pulling the head!

As soon as I get the vehicle I will post pictures and keep an eye open as I take the cover off.
