I think that’s how you get it out, not going far enough in to press anything, though.

Trying to get the interior back together, and a new lock cylinder will get this process started. The old one was trashed. The problem is- I can’t seem to get it in?

That second pic is as far as it’ll go. Searching only led me to dead ends, doesn’t just pop in like my FJ60’s did. Any ideas?

Wow, sorry I didn’t check MUD yesterday, got really busy, thanks so much for the influx of info!! I will bang your line tomorrow!

Spent a good couple hours on a tech call with @ToyotaMatt earlier this week and we drilled my ign switch install problem down to this. The middle part in the last pic wiggles around too much for my switch to go in correctly. The 62 took a backseat this week but I’m hoping to have some time to make a couple threads about this to get some more brain cells rubbed together and a solution to get this thing’s interior back together.

My first Q is- how to remove? There’s a cone shaped breakaway bolt with no head, I think I’ll just grind it off.

My second Q is if anyone has experience with these, and if they should have that much, or any, play in the middle part?

My third Q is if anyone who has parted a 62 has one of these available. Time to bug my go-to guy, @4Cruisers, about it. Any other recommendations?

Thanks again for all of the help @ToyotaMatt !!

The part you're looking for (along with the rest of the steering) is now in my '86 FJ60, along with the engine, axles, transfer case, wiring, dash, etc. Combined two vehicles into one, didn't really part out the FJ62.

perhaps the combined valued input of the folks below might shed more

light on this outside the box topic ?

@Spike Strip
@OSS
@Spook50
@cruisermatt
@3_puppies

@HemiAlex

i hope one of them has dealt with this or a very similar issue in the past ?

the
MUD-Team effort school of thought applies here in my opinion ..... :)

I've never had that bracket apart, but obviously everything from the key that fits into the rear of the tumbler to the key that fits into the electrical ignition switch, has to line up for it all to fit together...

It's possible that 'column bracket' has failed. There are shear bolts in the column for safety. Never removed though.

Good question about the wheel being locked before removal...

Threw the freshly sealed gas tank in and drove this thing around the block this weekend!

Runs and drives well. Needs oil change and tune up still, and I’ll probably Rodney flush the trans, but I’m super happy with it. Putting off the parts order until I have a tally for some other projects, but the list isn’t too terribly long. Then I can focus on rust repair, paint and interior.

Will make a thread for that ignition switch holder thing soon but I’ve been too busy AND lazy!

@HemiAlex came over yesterday to mull over business problems, examine opportunities, exchange rumors, spread gossip. Looks like Touch of Grey has a bright future. A lot brighter than it would be with me, I just prefer the dude way too much.
