Whoa whoa, before more disinformation is sent out, the 70 series wheel is NOT 16x7. A wheel is measured bead seat to bead seat. The wheel is a 16x6. Measuring edge to edge is incorrect for wheels.

It's weird, you'd think it was edge to edge if just looking at it. Have run some funky wheel sizes in my earlier youth...learned a tire can really take a beating.

285/75 R16 BFG KO2 on Dynamic 'Soft 8' 16x8 -22 steel wheels on my HJ61.

Dynamic are an Australian wheel manufacturer, unsure whether they're actually manufactured in Australia but quality is certainly better than some of the garbage you see out there.

Here in NZ we deal with 'offset' rather than 'backspacing'. From my limited research into the difference between the two, it appears my -22(mm) offset would be a 3.63" 'backspace'. Obviously this directly related to the wheel width, so when you guys are talking about a 3.5" 'backspace' on your stock wheels at 7"wide, that is equivalent to a -12 'offset'.

I find it interesting that as whole, the American cruiser scene seems to prefer taller, narrower tyres and a narrower, less aggressive wheel to what we tend to see here in NZ and even Australia. I have incredibly sagged rear leafs and experience zero rubbing on compression, further more I have no issues with the front tyre scrubbing on full lock.

Slightly off topic here but Joshua is dead right - I might be the only one in New Zealand who has 255/85 on a 60 series. In my opinion a very good setup with neutral steering behavior. Soon the Cooper S/T Maxx are worn out - and will be replaced by Toyo MT in the same size. offset vs backspace....It´s not only New Zealand - all over the world you talk about offset - it´s an american thing to talk backspace. Just different measurements of the wheel geometry, both are good - but I´m used to offset. Always a good source for misunderstanding if they get mixed up...

I've clearly missed out... They were really not in my price range, and was looking for a 255/85 but could not get any locally.
These I could get within 3 hours drive, so that's basically local. Seems to be a good size, looking forward to trails!!

I have those toyo MTs on 70 series steelies and really like them. They’re quieter than the BFG KM2s on my wife’s 100. I’ve had these about five years and no issues. @HemiAlex
Had a bad experience with them since then, so I’m not sure if toyo changed something in the design.

I had a set of 255-85-16 Toyo MT in late 2019. I put them on and instantly had a pull to the right. I did my due process and it was the tires 100%. I swapped with a friend and the pull moved to his truck even with us randomly installing the tires in a different orientation. Google “toyo mt radial pull” and you’ll see what I dealt with.

4WP parts asked me some questions and swapped them out for the same size in a BF Goodrich KM3.

I was apprehensive about the KM3 because my K02 had cracked previously.

The KM3 have been phenomenal. I’ve got over 30,000 and they are maybe half way done. Plenty of tread left. They’re very quiet for a MT. I’ve run them down to 15 psi for about 30 days with no weird wear. I would buy another set.

Enclosed are pics of the 255/85-16 Toyo in the first three, the Km3 in the 4th picture and then the 285/75-16 K02 Loaners I had for a few weeks.

I had 255/85R16 KM2 on 16x6 trailer rims on my 60 and no complaints about these tire. All good, handle great.

Then I put 255/85R16 Toyo MT on the "70 series" rims. I loved these tires. No complaint at all but find there wears fast. Went to 8/32 in 22K miles.

@bcsteel The 70 series rims fits perfect and look great on my 60, my 40 and of course on my ex-BJ70

In the mean time, I move from my 60 to a 100 as a main expedition vehicle and my 60 become my non-winter DD and all around vehicle. And an amazing deal came through and I got my 285/75R16 Cooper AT3 XLT tire. The Cooper AT3 XLT's are quiet and handle very well on the road.

I am a tall and skinny tires lover (255/85R16) but they are so hard to get here in Quebec (Canada) that I turned to 285/75R16.

Thanks you for the response. I’m going to go with the 285’s for the same reason. 255 is a great size and look awesome but I can’t get them . 14 day wait up in northern BC. 285’s are everywhere up here so that’s the choice.. just wanted to confirm the 70 wheels will work.

@bcsteel if BC Canadian Tire stores offer the same promotion as in Québec province, you can get Cooper AT3 XLT at 20% quite often and even 25% if you are patien.

I got 255 85 r16 Yokohama from kal tire. They had to ship them from Vancouver I think. Or Alberta.

Thanks everyone. I have the 70 series wheels already. Since the 255’s are such a wait and are 470.00 a piece I decided to look elsewhere. Local shop has a deal on for the coopers. 290.00 mounted and balanced. Hard to argue with that.
