Could someone please expand on this?
I need a new battery for the 100 (LX) and was leaning towards Christo's tray and a DHP 31M.
Thanks!

Here's a lot of info:

Sears Diehard Platinum 31M issues - Expedition Portal

And yes, Sears has discontinued the Platinum line, so you're probably going to have a hard time finding a 31m to buy anyways. My understanding is that they're planning to replace them with rebranded Northstars, but who knows when/if that will happen.

Also, last time I talked to Christo, I believe he told me that they were out of stock on the 100 series trays and were looking at a re-design of the bracket that might allow for an ARB twin compressor to be mounted over there as well.

bump for what seems like a nice battery alternative and the above mentioned bonus

AGM batteries are good. We use them on our fleet transit buses. Reliable & yes they some heavy sob's. But one good & the 1st indication that the AGM battery is starting to go bad is they will emit a rotten egg smell. Stinks like hell. Time to change out & replace

Is the Northstar 27f AGM the biggest reversed terminal AGM out there?

I have a 97 4Runner and want an AGM but don't want to deal with extending the cables for a 31m and I just want a reversed terminal battery. I'm not really looking to spend $250 plus for a battery.

I found a couple brands (Duracell and DieHard Advanced Gold) of 34R AGM batteries today for less than $200, but not sure if I want to go that small. Main reason for the upgrade is to run a fridge and I might add a winch later.

It's the largest capacity 27F AGM that I've found. It's the same as the X2 Power in the above post. It's not a marine battery so it's not on sale at Batteries Plus right now, but you do get the usual 10% off ordering on-line.

This may be the way to go for me. Basically be an extra $100, but I will be taking this vehicle way out eventually.

The positive terminal/cable was easy to mod on the 100 series, 4Runner doesn't look that easy since it's already been butchered.

So, the 27F fits? Do you need to modify the terminals (it doesn't look like it).

BatteriesPlus says the 24F fits, which would you guys go with?

27F fits in the stock location and tray. It's the biggest you can fit without any mods.

wonderful! I am currently trying to decide if the $250 price tag for an AGM battery is worth it. (I am reading threads, wondering if I 'need' it... I am not running a winch or a fridge, only will be using the batt for starting at this time, I do camp and play in the desert alot though)

How are AGM batteries with heat? 113 deg. here in phx today.

I run a standard starting battery and an AGM auxiliary battery. I can get a regular Interstate 27F for $105 with core out the door. For that reason I can't justify spending almost 3x as much for X2Power when all my heavy-draw equipment is pulling from the aux battery.

If you had only a single battery setup with lots of aftermarket equipment and power needs, I'd spring for the X2P. Pricewise, if you don't have many electrical goodies installed, a normal starting battery and maybe a jump box would be the way to go IMO.

What he said.

Is everyone still digging the X2 AGM battery?

The battery that came in our 470 is acting weak (and is 2 years old) so I was thinking of going to this. Still not cheap, list price is $319 these days, but there is a $20 mail-in rebate through Sept.

Reserve capacity is supposed to be 190 minutes @ 25 amps + 930 CCA:

We installed one in my son's TLC 3/2/15. No real complaints so far...

(When the DHP in my LX dies, it will be replaced with one of these.)

A year and half and everything is still good. I can't say I've put the battery under a lot of stress, but it did have one deep discharge shortly after I installed it when the shop left the key on overnight... Charged it back up and it's been fine ever since.

Thanks all. I just got back from Batteries Plus where they said the current battery in the LX tested fine.
Last Thursday the :princess: and I were out in 2 different vehicles and the LX just clicked when she went to start it. I jumped it off the other vehicle (the Might Civic) and then we went home. I trickle charged it that night, and then we went out of town for Labor Day. When we got home last night, I trickle charged it again and all seems to be well.

I wonder if my wife drove somewhere, shut it off, and sat in the truck for a while before opening the doors? This would keep the daytime running lights on until she opened the doors, yes?
