Watching the deconstruction of this pig is very interesting. @kelly saad it looks like you drilled out about a thousand spot welds to get those panels off. Is that all that’s needed or is there some cutting involved as well.
It's mostly spot welds but there have been some welds that needed cutting too. The drilling is time consuming and requires discipline and patience, not fun. The D pillar had two welds on each side that were impossible to access to I used the plasma on them. At this point, I'm just removing almost everything. I will split the inner fenders too. Rust has just crept everywhere so I need to continue thoroughly.

Toyota did nothing to prevent corrosion on the inside of these things. They were rusting on the boat ride here. Absolute miracle any of them survive
Look at the quick spray of undercoat in this area that was behind the quarter. It didnt cover much! Haha. See where I scraped some off there. It actually worked and some of it is still playable and totally clean underneath. Smalls like roofing materials. Probably is.

New shop is a major upgrade! Far from the old place?
The new place is in Cottonwood. So I drive down Oak Creek Canyon, through Sedona and down to Cottonwood. It takes an hour but you couldn't ask for a more beautiful commute, so Im happy.

Back at it here on Monday.

This rear corner/D pillar piece has only 4 spot welds down the entire side and they are grouped together. Both sides were the same. It's totally loose other than those 4 spot welds. Seems odd and interesting.

I know my 55 is rusting on the inside like that, but I'll never actually look
ignorance is so blissful!
That's actually a large part of my rationalization for going through this much trouble and expense. I figure they are all going to rust in, out, top down, or bottom up (or both) unless you do this; it's just a matter of time. Unless perhaps if you can find one that's always been in a desert climate and you plan on keeping it in said climate. I was contemplating chemical dip followed by e coating but you would have to drill a lot of holes to make sure you got all the rust neutralized and full coverage of the e coating. At least this way you can see with two eyes what there is to treat, replace, or just paint.

This corner piece was needing to be replaced also. It was buried underneath the quarter. It was very rusty all back in this area, but I am really surprised how a large majority of these parts only have surface rust, not holes. Still, i will be fabricating many parts.
