If these specs are true.

The LC300 out of the box gas better ground clearance and off road angles.

Lc 300 I think has 9.2 inches of ground clearance add that with the front locker a step above out of the box.

I can understand why the GX went with the V6TT setup. Most of the Lexus owners aren't your Overlanding folks, and their idea of "roughing it" consists of driving to the beach/mtn cabin.

The overtrail edition will arguably be more capable than any LC edition we've seen so far though. What am I missing here?

Nice, direct, and quick review. Lots of info here, thank you !

True. Probably more mid to high $50ks.

Only two trims, plus a special edition which will have round lights too, extra expensive interior, and will cost more.

I think this one will be like the 80: Just tires, get rid of the sliders, and. bum ! You got your self a much better and nicer looking truck !

I am not sure how many here have really owned T4R's. I don't know what teh new one will look like and only when on the streets, we should be able to compare them agaisnt the LC250.... but, in teh current models, the T4R's as GREAT of vehicles they are, they ain't GX, nor Prados, and no 200's. We shall see if the new 6th Gen T4R's are that differnt or not, than the LC250, and else.

Again, time really will tell. MANY T4R's owners did not buy the LC because it was double the price (new vehicles), but really wanted them. Now that the prices would be closer, we need to see what difference it makes the LC250 vs the T4R. Some really never got the LC200's because it is not as nimble as the T4R's, but that is a smaller grouup.

I think for many, $20K or so difference, is a lot of money for just a motor. I am not sure where you live or have lived, but have you ever experience a Prado in say, Latin America? The Prados are EXCELLENT vehicles, and very capable. The GX here has been sold as Lexus just because, but really is a Prado, as you know, and it is indeed a very capable vehicle.... And in all the rest of the world, the Prado has carried the LC badge very proudly, so I think the LC250 should be a proud LC badge carrier.

Like when you are looking for a E46 M3: Slicktop, cloths, manual seats. Difficult to find these days, and more expensive.! I agree with you. And agree with you , a great compliment to a 80; I am myself thinking not to sell my 80, and perhaps the 200 when I get my hands in the 250.
They are probably wrong, but Car and Driver is currently estimating the GX will start at $60k. Even if it is $65k I will buy that all day everyday over the 1958 at $55k.

Never sell your 80 :) and as an ex e46M3 owner, the slicktop was impossible and cloth seats (at least in US) nonexistent, it still gives me nostalgic vibes that was a great car. But not as enjoyable as the e34M5 which I loved more than any car I have ever owned

Here’s the root of the problem.

Beyond Zero Vision

As part of Toyota’s diverse approach to working toward a carbon neutral future, Land Cruiser is the latest hybrid offering in Toyota’s lineup to wear the Beyond Zero badge. Today, Toyota offers 16 electrified vehicles for customers to choose from. With twelve hybrid models, two plug-in hybrid models, the bZ4X battery electric vehicle, and the zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell Mirai, Toyota provides more choices than any other automaker for customers to reduce their carbon footprint.

But it seems like only the US domestic market is getting this configuration. Other markets will not likely be petrol.

The no-frills interior of the 1958, or the base model 250, reminds me more of our bought-new 92 FJ80 (still going) than any other Land Cruiser since then. Rugged cloth, lots of hard plastic, the same fold-and-tumble second row seats. It seems to have a very similar feel--simple, durable, and practical, not fancy--and words can't express how much I prefer that.

Out if curiosity I what I could find for price at release time for a couple of past land cruisers into an inflation calc

1990 FJ80 Original Price $22k -> $52k in todays dollars
1998 100 series original price $47k -> $87k
2007 200 series original price $57k -> $84k

I'm with y'all being surprised at $50k tacomas and 4runners, but thats what the market is right now. I think average new car transaction price is nearly $50 k now.

Inflation adjusted pricing is an excellent lens through which to see the cancer of luxury bloat that began dogging Land Cruiser as early as the mid-1990s. It's also, as you've shown, a great tool to see how the base model 250 is, in inflation adjusted pricing, harkening back to early 1990s plain utility and pricing -- which, having bought one of our Land Cruisers new in the early 1990s, is in my opinion really, really good news. These words haven't passed my lips in years, but way to go Toyota.

At a much higher price point and with predetermined specs. Not everyone wants eKDSS. I personally hated the XRES & KDSS system.

I can see the 250 getting a trail finder or TRD upgrade, which may make it a much more performant platform than ever before.

If any vehicle is overpriced here it’s the 5th gen 4R. Selling 2010 technology for 2023 prices.

I fully expect to see one million kms on my 1988 technology LC. If I don’t happen to live that long, then someone else will see it. From what I understand, the Gen 5 4Runner has a life expectancy of 300-400 K miles. Do you see a value in 2010 tech, if it can guarantee you this kind of longevity and real reliability as opposed to an unknown quotient?

Short of Toyota moving 4Runner production to Mexico I can't think of one reason why it won't be preferable to the LC250 in its the 4Runner Trailhunter and TRD-Pro trims. It is virtually impossible to equip or price them worse.

I predict they will have the same exact engine, the same lockers and disconnect as the Tacoma, better geometry. Even at $60k for a Trailhunter and $65k for a TRD-Pro I think they will be equal or better to the LC250's. Toyota is going to have to be very creative to keep them down market of this.

OH, ! I see, that being the case, YES ! If a GX can be have for $60K , ABSOLUTELY !!! My only "but" will be less MPG gains vs the LC200, but absolutely !!!!

LOL. I am really thinking hard not too. :). I had, one. IR, cloth, slicktop, moded. Let me find a pic. I put 911 breakes, exaust, etc... I miss her every day. That was the 4th one after other two manuels, and one SMG.

I really like the KDSS specially in town. That was the reason I "imported" a T4R Trail edition 2012 back in the day from Utah ! I said: GREAT, finally I can get the KDSSS w/o paying LC200 prices, or ugly GX Lexus prices ! LOL. It is nice that we have options !!!

My issue is the same one I had with the new Sequoia.

The sequoia rear cargo area and this 2024 Land Cruiser have the same problem with a lot of lost storage consumed to make room for batteries. That lift up clearance height looks massive from top of bumper to top of battery deck.

Regretting they don’t have a tailgate split rear hatch.

I don’t hate it, but I’m not LOVING it like I wanted.

I still want a US 70 series.

I want to get a better look at the cargo bay of the 250.

If it's elevated to accommodate a battery, I think what I'd miss most is long flat section made by removing the second row. I usually run one of our cruisers, whichever is in camping mode, as a two-seater; the flat cargo area is just really convenient for hauling water, cooler, boxes, and gear.

But I don't think I'd miss the cargo volume. That is, we never pack floor to ceiling, so raising the floor by four inches doesn't really cost us space that we were otherwise using.

And for me, the range and efficiency gain of 27 mpg is an acceptable trade for the loss of a contiguous flat cargo bay.

I still want a US 70 series too.

I have seen T4R's 5th Gen passed the 3/4 million miles ! They ARE AMAZING vehicles !

And..... I am officially sad. These LC250 are "almost" perfect. The 1958 is "almost" everything I want, and non of what I don't want ! F---me ! It does not have, or at least this pre-production one, rear AC vents ! That shi7 is important to me, to my kids, and my baby Wally ! Part of the reason I was this close to import a LC80 from South America, the rear vents. ! Arghhhhh.... I really do like the cheaper LC250 despite all the things that might not be "perfectly" right, but this non AC rear vents biz is really a deal breaker for me ! I have to see what the mid trim costs, and will take it from there vs. GX550. Dang, almost PERFECT for me !!! LOL.

🤦‍♀️🤣

I think I like the 1958 version the most too from the videos I have seen, the round light version looked odd at first but I like it more than the other rectangular version so far.
