I put one on for the top mount intercooler I got from Cross Country....they did one for a truck similar to my build with the 1HDT and the wide nose. The larger hood scoop has to do with pedestrian safety....I would guess they wanted a crumple zone between the unlucky person who ended up on the hood and the motor under it...it’s quite a bit taller than the standard hood scoop....so more room to collapse. I saw the larger ones referred to as DPF hoods at one point because I think they came along when the DPF systems were added to the VDJs in 17 I think. Little foggy on the last part though.
That makes sense... Thanks for chiming in!

Car design changed quite a bit around that 2016 time when the pedestrian safety stuff started...it’s when the front ends of cars started getting very blunt and tall. They wanted pedestrians to hit the hood I think vs. being thrown up into the windshield. I remember it being a very big deal for car designers as now they had to deal with these big flat grill areas. I know on the Mercedes we get in that the hoods crumple amazingly easily in the smallest of front impacts. The C class Mercedes hoods are super soft....and aluminum...about $4k for a new one. I’m sure it’s the same for most all manufacturers now. It’s been a gradual change in their profiles.....one you don’t really notice too much until you get some of the older cars in and see how low and pointy their front profiles are. Pedestrians must have been thrown into windshields all the time :)

This is a dream truck for so many of us. Can’t wait to see what you do with yours!

You going to run the Dunlops for a while?

Nope... After suspension upgrade (OME) I'll get the Yokohama Geolandar... That will be in two weeks time fingers crossed... Still pending registration, as the privileged demigods public servants are on vacations until January 9th 🤦🏻‍♂️

I don't think they care. All sorts of aftermarket metal gets slapped on the front down there, thus rendering any "pedestrian safety" designed implemented measure useless.
This is exactly the case and especially for rigs running around the country it's totally necessary.... in fact the vast majority all have bulbars on their cruisers, so much so that it's almost to the point that they look naked without them to us😄

I got the cruiser with overlanding and off-roading in mind... So yes, the bullbar was ALWAYS on the mods list! 😬

Hello,

Congratulations on your new truck.

It appears that the top prefilter on your snorkel is missing. You should put it back.

Pedestrian safety features in 70 Series started in MY 2007 with the plastic front bumper.

Hood scoop design changed a bit in the 2010s because of safety requirements and air flow for the intercooler, which in turn helped with emissions.

Regarding bull bars, as they say in Australia, they ensure that the kangaroo ends up below the truck, not in the windshield.

About the snorkel... Yes, the car was shipped with all moving parts that 'can leave by themselves' removed and placed inside the vehicle in the cargo area.(same with the spare wheel carrier and actual tire). These picture where taken just after the car was released from customs... Prefilter was put in place shortly after.

Thanks for your concern.

Seems like a lot are shipped with a spare tire, rear tire carrier, and a Jerry can.
