Awesome, thanks mate. I am Perth based, so will look at a few options. Can you also pm the ballpark figure that you paid?

Thanks a lot mate, awesome build! Love the dedication and the time spent.

Hey guys,
New member here. Basically joined after planning on selling my 2009 Ford Ranger PK 3.0 Tdi and going to buy a troopy. Lusting over a !HDFTE but unlikely to find one here in Aus for sale for the right money, so thinking of a 1HZ now after driving a mate's. And bloody hell Damo, your rig is such a beast, and what a story. Building it in Peru with all the challenges that go along with it, and your amazing work tracking down the 1HZ-T factory edition from the Coaster busses in the 90's. Awesome stuff. Looking forward to reading more about your work on here.. from Coogee NSW.

welcome to the forum mate!
Mate if i were back home, I'd try the following... get all the dough together in hand at home, bookmark all the car sales sites, then get up 15 minutes earlier every morning and do a HDJ78 search as part of your breakfast regime, and as you find them call every prospective seller on the first day its posted and threaten to fly in before lunch with the amount of cash you want to pay (taking into account the cost of the airfare bought same day)... bound to get someone desperate for cash to take the bait. if you don't work for yourself, chuck a sicky or tell them to fet gucked. work out how to get it home later... believe me, modifying is never as good as the real thing, and the HDJ78 will only get harder to find and more expensive over time, so bight the bullet while you can.

hmmm, time for a bit of updating. This bit should be self explanatory.

Bit of progress on the roof rack, far from finished but the OEM mounts work well. Was going to make my own fifth mount for over the cab, but I'm going to order another OEM set to keep them all the same

Got the rear tank retro fit done. I did have a prefilter in the engine bay, but in the hope of protecting my OEM fuel solenoids, I removed the prefilter and installed it near the rear tank, also got another one and installed it on the front tank.

Solenoids installed in factory location (coloured stuff is vacuum lines for exhaust brake)

Got new hard lines to suit the solenoids, and those I removed fitted nicely with a bit of bending here on the first length to bridge back towards the rear (none of these long lengths could be shipped to me despite trying numerous means)

I removed the brake proportioning valve, replaced with a tee, gave the brake lines a bit of love for a better fit, and fitted the factory prefilter where the valve went. Had a spare hard line for the return, but man line here is just hose for now.

Finally fixed my dodgy turbo oil return. Pulled and painted the sump and welded on the pipe from the first turbo oil return I had that didn't clear (see many pages before). Now same diameter. Put it on an angle so the hose can be just straight and not require a bend.

The sump already had a return soldered in that came with the vehicle, but it was small, now using that as the return for my catch can, which also has a check valve. Not sure if this setup will be beneficial or cause problems, but time will tell. Seen contradictory information about whether that's a good idea.
