Ok so new 2.5” mandrel bent intake shipped to us today. That is major since we need it to get rid of our ganky intake hard pipe-coupler situation.

We will be tig welding some tabs to both hard SS intake pipes to secure them, put them exactly where we want and keep them there.

This pipe needs to move over and be secured, not cool on oil filler cap.

Mounting bracket will be welded in this approximate location to secure it.

The other intake pipe also needs to move a touch so it isn’t rubbing on A/C line.

You can’t really see the wiring much in the engine bay, it’s wrapped in black and somewhat dark in here. Not to mention this is a minimalistic harness. IE, lots has been deleted. We use high quality wrap and tape though and put effort into this task. It is also stock per a 1995-97 LHD HDJ80, albeit with our in-house upgrades! 😉

While this is all going on we are replacing screw clamps with t-clamps in the intake plumbing.

Hey Ian,

Is this A/C line factory shape for this engine or did you have one made custom?

Original to the diesel in a LHD.

Thank you. I like how much longer it is than the petrol version, allowing one to jog around obstacles. Second question is about the manifold at the compressor. Are there two high pressure and one low press ports, like the petrol? Or are there two of each? If two of each, may I see a pic please?

New hard intake pipe, it is not polished SS so we are going to polish it.

Unbelievable week on this build and Cruiser. We put sooooo much into these builds and this is when it ALL pays off. Months and months of not just labor but communication with at least a half dozen people often during that time to make this happen. I will be thanking them ALL right here in this build thread when we actually are 100% done with this build.

In the meantime, here are some more pics! 😂

John was nice enough to let me give it a drive today. It's pretty damn fantastic. I'm glad I ditched the LS for the FTE in my Troopy project.

The tuning module isn't hooked up due to still breaking in the band new FTE so the full experience wasn't available and I didn't push it beyond 3000. But it's a blast. Boost is addictive. The torque rolls on hard around 2200 and that Gturbo red wheel spools up quick with full boost a few hundred rpm later. Windows up you can barely tell it's a diesel it's so quiet (mostly from the sound deadening, partially from the fact that the FTE is just smooth). With the passenger window down its all diesel and turbo sounds, pick your poison, it's rad.

It's great, I loved it. I'm even more stoked to get mine finished now as it'll have the identical drivetrain

Chris who is my main man in the shop put an absolute ton of work, effort and thought into this Cruiser and build. Tonight he got to drive it for the first time!! 🤩🤩🥰🥰

Now that is reward for your labor! Only people who love cars and understand what goes into massive builds like this get to feel this. 😉🤗🤗

Alrighty, so @TonyP came to town between deployments, we worked on his build most of the week. Last weekend went wheeling on probably Idaho’s best trail. He has been in town over a week and all along we have been talking about him driving Johns 80 because his build has the exact same powertrain. We had hoped John and Tony might be in town the same week but it just didn’t play out that way. Anyways, John being the super cool guy that he is, when I asked if he was ok with Tony giving the HDJ80 a spin, he was all for it! He was even like, hell ya let’s get a 3rd party opinion on this Cruiser!

So here you go....

Here is Tony’s build we are doing, and mind you he dropped the LS3 6.2L 6L80 combo we had going into his build for the FTE/H152. 😎

So I hope that helps ease the wait @jmlockwood I know it has been a journey with this Cruiser and build, going on 2yrs since you have seen it but rest assured, this Cruiser is all about the stoke and ear to ear smiles!

Cheers

Alright, closing it out for the week and night.

It was a big crunch for us not only this week but leading up to this point and what is to come. I am not going to mention it, that’s Johns privilege but this week was a must with intake and A/C. I need to get this Cruiser out and log some good miles over the next few weeks, and now I can!

🤩😎🤩
