Guys I am in love with Toyo SUV's and Trucks.. so I search the internet to find a old Toyo truck that I can find for cheap and get it fixed up.

I found something just like that but the owner is said that its not been driven for 20 years. He got it from a mechanic who wanted to fix it but didn't. The truck has no engine either.. and no title.. its around 30 years old..1987. It also does have rust as a 30 year old truck may have especially when its been sitting outdoors not been driven.

I dont mind getting a engine for what I think maybe around $400 max. but what else should I be looking for in a truck that has not been run for such a long time?

Currently I can think of - Breaks ($30), tires ($600+), rotors ($100 both if needed to change), clutch ($100), maybe brakes lines ($?), fuel filter ($20), air filter ($20), fuel pump ($100)

I dont know if such a old truck was even Fuel Injection. The guy is asking $1500 Firm for it. With the above part list i think if everything goes well I put in around $1500 bucks and its good to go..

What do you guys think? worth the trouble? or just skip it?

I hope no one steals it but here's the link. 1987 Toyota 4X4 5 Speed Truck

I would never spend more than $500 on anything without a title no matter how nice it is.

You never know what can of worms you’re getting into and what’s the point of being stuck with something you can’t register?

Hold out until you find something with a title.

WTH is a "Toyo"??

None of those prices are realistic. Unless you are buying used stuff out of the junkyard. A $100 clutch? o_O You will spend waaay more than $1500 getting a decent engine installed and all the other stuff it probably needs. And then it will rot out from under you.

Imo thats 500$ tops. No engine, no title, rust....

I agree, and even $500 is kinda generous.

I never had a title for that truck you have now. Each state is different.

$1500? No title? No engine? Walk away. You should be able to find a runner with a title for that.

Alright alright you got me there!

No title and no engine in a 30 year old truck with rust that hasn’t run in 20? I’m thinking free. It looks nice in the pics, but pretty much everything that moves (or should) will not do what it’s supposed to. Run don’t walk unless you have a ton of money and time on your hands.

Folks.... thanks for the advise..maybe i was so thrilled that I was getting a deal.. i'll look around further.. But most are right I could get a fully titled truck with an running engine at that price.. I appreciate the help.

BTW what other forums should I be going to get familiar with the bigger issue, know trouble issue, where to look for problems etc?

I agree with the above on the truck. It would most take much more work (and money) to realistically get this truck road worthy again than you think. A vehicle that has sat for an extended period of time is like buying a high-mileage vehicle that has had very little maintenance done. Chances are everything will need to be gone through. Rubber parts especially.

x2 for YotaTech Forums
