Someone torqued the bolts of the bell housing to the trans to freaking like 90-110 lb should’ve been 50 on top 2 and 30 on bottom 4 …. Insane

You know what I found out today, the radiator has the trans cooler lines going into the bottom of the radiator …. I thought I needed a trans cooler separately but then realized the diagram goes straight to the radiator! … anyone with auto Fj62s know why my truck had a aftermarket universal auto trans cooler ??? Do these overheat

Were the lines routed into the radiator then into the cooler then back out to the transmission if not that's how it should be and yes that's the main problem is overheating with those transmissions hence the adding of an aftermarket transmission cooler.

Lots of information about it and in the faq section.

Yes exactly that’s how it was, with the original radiator

I’m thinking of just routing it to this new mishimoto aluminum radiator should do the trick without a separate trans cooler?? Any advice

A cooler is cheap insurance and the truck is already plumbed for it. Why wouldn’t you install one?
I’m just thinking logically, for example if I install it in front of the radiator it’s taking away from the airflow of the radiator being a couple degrees higher, I might put a separate temperature sensor on it to see what it’ll do in terms of fluid temperature / with without the separate trans cooler on top of the section it has in the bottom of the radiator

since I don’t tow and drive in high heat I think the aluminum performance radiator will suffice for now

Great job, The Cruiser is looking amazing
thank you brother trying to get it all together, i ordered 2 california cats from magnaflow $500 a pop thats 1k right there, then ordered the headers, and sand blasted my exhaust, just missing the Y pipe, gonna be pretty sweet in a couple days once i get all the parts, im rebuilding the trans right now and the transfer case ... lets see what happens

Undoubtedly very impressed with your work!

I'd like to ask something out of genuine intelectual curiosity: Isn't it easier for you to obtain a 62 in much better condition for restoration? Or perhaps it's a challenge for you to work on such a deteriorated vehicle, for example, on the body?

In one of your comments, you mentioned a sum exceeding $325,000 dollars in spare parts (if not a hyperbole]. What's the point of spending almost half a million dollars to repair this vehicle and not buying another one for less? Am I making myself understood?

Please don't misunderstand me. I understand you have the money (fantastic!), but I'm trying to understand the underlying motivation. Fun, hobby, therapy, ludic reasons, or perhaps a mix of all? Greetings and thanks for any feedback.
thats a great question ill answer it to the best i can, the 325k thing i was kidding about i hope its not that much LOL

i chose this truck for two reasons, 93k or 95k original miles on it, so i didnt really care for the condition as much as when its fully built with 95k miles on it its worth more thats the first reason i picked it

the second reason i picked it was because its red, i really liked the red color on these trucks ...

another reason i guess not so money involved is i like to give vehicles a chance to live and not get scrapped so even if its beat up a bit i rather take my time with it and do it.

yes its totally easier to get a truck without any rust like a california truck where i live, or a arizona truck and be more cost effective to redo, but whats the fun in that? i like the challenge, it is a hobby, and its definitely therapeutic its a battle between patience, and going insane

so far idk how much i spent, maybe 20-25k? i dont think its that much when this truck is going to be fully built out i think itll be worth much more but im going to TRY and not sell it, obviously its a lot of work

Run both

I appreciate your honest response. One of the reasons I like this site is because I always learn from different experiences and opinions. Good luck with the restoration; I'm sure it will turn out to be a wonderful vehicle.

I am considering ditching my completely stock FJ62 exhaust from the manifold to the muffler. Cruiser Matt has a sweet stainless kit in development that has headers and combines the pipes into one collector. I just have to wait until Christmas to ask Santa (SWMBO) for one. Not sure if you want to check out Matt's kit first?
