The slog is real…

Razor and penetrating oil followed by cleanup with lacquer thinner. Going to talk with machine shop again but it’s smooth, like can’t feel anything except for the coolant dead ends in the block from the head.
I’m assuming is a little corrosion, but it’s inside the gasket so I don’t know how crucial that is. It’s extremely minimal.
I have a carbide scraper showing up tomorrow I’m hitting it with to get as much as I can off.

Back in my subaru days (loooong ago) there was a heap of MLS type gaskets failing due to the coolant having the wrong mix and eating away at some of the plastic. It was almost like some sort of iontophoresis was drawing coolant through the coating and making corrosion on the block and causing leaks.
The factory coolant from subaru was all we could do to stop it, and flushing out the mis matched over concentrated glycol mix assisted with it not happening again.

Did you put a straight edge on it to see if it's flat?

those back two coolant holes are too close to the edge for my comfort when i did it, was really grimy back there too

maybe a few more double check torque passes around that area when putting back together

Yep I plan on triple checking torque and even borrowing a friends torque wrench to check as well.

Machine shop said you usually don’t have to double check an MLS gasket, but said it wouldn’t hurt to do it.

Slow going …clean scrape clean. Just about ready to put the head back on.
Have been painting outside of house, and garage and shop and cottage…and helping handyman work on an alpaca ranch…I need a job soon 😂

I did redo the FIPG on the pushrod cover. I tried to use the toothpaste tube adapter and it ripped a hole instantly…got it done but miserable mess on gloves. 😑

While you are in there….
Pulled the oil cooler to replace that gasket…scrape scrape scrape. Decided to tear it all apart and replace all gaskets and orings. They should be showing up in a week…

Ring packing.

Apparently I missed placed one of these, of course. It’s a rubber gasket that goes up and seals the whole around the injector kind of like a spark plug boot, so no Dust gets in. Everything is in baggies so not sure where this went 😑

Does anyone have a local source for these or any thoughts?

If you can't find anything close to you give United Diesel, in Alexandria, VA a call (703-750-3040). Very knowledgable and nice folks there. They've sourced injectors for a 12 HT so I bet they could could find you a little widget pretty quickly.

Thanks for that. I actually called up @cruiseroutfit and they had them in stock. $23 for all 4 shipped to my door in a few days.

They didn’t have the injector Orings (copper) so I didn’t they would have these…

They do, so good times. They all needed replaced anyways.

The order at cruiser outfitters before I posted and a week ago I way overpaid shipping on those same orings from an injector place...c’est La vie

You don’t happen to have a spare 15btfte you’d pass along for shipping? 😂

HA I wish. I would've thrown that into my last 74 in a heartbeat.

If you still want these as spares feel free to have em. I don't foresee getting into another BJ anytime soon
