As you can imagine a 12ht shutter is not an easy part to find but I tracked one down in Canada and in Sept of 2017 Jimmy @CenTXFJ60 and I made a whirlwind trip up to B.C. to pick up a 61 and a bunch of parts and I was able to pick up this replacement.

I took it and the heater grid apart and they cleaned up pretty nice.

There is something magical about these old engines, don't know what...maybe the simplicity of the components, maybe their bulkiness but it's definitely awesome seeing them come together!

Man Roma...I did not realize that was 3 years ago. Time sure does fly. I still have your fan shroud and plan to bring it to you this summer when we meet in Ouray.

Man it sure does, I was thinking the same thing. I hate that it's been so long since I've been to that side of the country again. It sure is gorgeous. It was a quick trip but man those were some good times... camping in that gold...something park in Victoria and Malahat lookout. Ferry rides and customs! lol Wish I had a good excuse to go back up there.

Memory lane
Don't have trees like this in the south.

I’m sure we could coordinate a parts runs with the great MUD community north of the border :). We can create an excuse

Sorry guys, I think the border is closed to non-essential travel at the moment. But definitely you should plan another trip when things open up. I looked through your pictures, they look great. And there is so much more to see if you have more time....

When I got the 12ht that all these accessories came off of I discovered the intake shutter was damaged. I'm assuming the engine had rolled over perhaps in shipping at some point. This shutter was off the eBay engine that looked super crusty that I rebuilt earlier and is currently in my 60. I'd robbed the shutter off my original 12ht that broke in Canada to get that one going.

Ouch! Due to the difficulty finding parts, it might be worth tig welding it up.

I'm in for the trip! Meet you in the middle somewhere!

I thought about that Pat, also, I think a lot of the aussie blokes that build these engines up for high boost actually get rid of this part and machine up an adapter so, perhaps one could be picked up from down under. At least the vacuum pot is still good on this one so its a good spare to keep around.

Pulled the engine off the stand today to install the rear bellhousing plate.

I powdered this thing a few years ago.

I did spray this stuff into the cavity in the block and on the end of the crank before I installed the plate just to keep any potential corrosion away.

And some shiny hardware

I had intended to have the flywheel resurfaced and install a new clutch but I pulled this thing off the shelf and noticed it had some fresh machine marks and no discoloration from heat. The disk and and pressure plate are exedy so made the decision to run it as is. If it ever gives any trouble it's easy enough for me to do a clutch job anyway.

I did run the flywheel through my parts washer.

After a two month wait for them to slow boat from Japan, my 16's finally came in today. 255-85r16 big step up from the 31x10.50s that were on it. I was pleased to find out the spare fit underneath in the factory location. Thanks @Onur for the assistance ordering.
