All I can say about the side track is I am very much OK with it. I have not been hanging around in this section for long, but I see the threads meandering a bit and the moderators in this section allowing that .... and I like it. They seem to flow more like verbal conversations that naturally go off on tangents then come back to the subject.

If you want to read a thread that is 10% technical / 90% BS, you can always breeze through mine. :)

The sidetrack was awesome. Best early morning mud chuckles in a while and had to stop shy of liking every comment. This corner of mud is pretty darn cool with some true characters and that could be dangerous cause Chris lives oh so close to me.

It's common knowledge (or at least it should be) that the 70 Series and the folks who own them are the "coolest" things in Cruiserland. The 70 Series is the "Fonzie" of Land Cruisers.

Except for the owner comb-overs

OK I'll bite ....... What is the X-CLUSIVE badge?

Symbol of elevated stature in the Club de Rayas Cruceros, indicative of flagrant appointments, more local flair, and a more refined power plant, as the edges are polished with accompanying options from Italia.

Bahahaha.

My assumption is, it's only on the Portuguese bound VMJ-73s assembled in Spain, since this doesn't have either....

Thought I'd seen them on this one, too. Based on, figured it'd be on most the striped exteriors, but guess I was wrong.

I'll be removing the VM250 Turbo emblems and the stripes, but keeping the XCLUSIVE....'cause if it starts with X, it can't be all that bad.

Edited: it's Google Translates fault, Alberto. Apologies for the hack job. Hahahaha.

Weekend Progress - 2014 11 09

I was able to get a little work done this past weekend. Work that was completed includes:

  1. TEQ Badge (gotta have a little bling)
  2. Wiring for a disconnect for the 24V Battery Tender
  3. Oil and filter change (sample pulled for Blackstone for oil analysis)
  4. New gaskets in the air filter housing (thanks @beno) to ensure only filtered air gets to the engine.
  5. "redneck" engineered catch can for the crankcase ventilation tube.

Pics

TEQ Badge and connector for battery tender. I added a Battery Tender (even found one in 24V) since the truck is not driven daily. I had already eliminated all power taps from only one of the batteries, so this should help with battery life.

I did a quick oil and filter change and pulled an oil sample for analysis by Blackstone. I will post up the report when I get it back. While I was under the truck, I noticed that the "blow-by tube" dumps right on the front drive shaft and it had a light coat of oil. Since I have cats that like to climb all over vehicles in the garage, I started scheming about hot to capture the oil so they would not come back into the house all greasy .... then I remembers a Dodge 2500 I had in the early 2000s with a 5.9l Cummins. It came from the factory with a little "pill bottle" attached to the blow-by tube on the timing cover that had to be emptied at each oil change

Thus the genesis of the following pictures of redneck engineering. I've put 50 kms on the truck with this and my only question really is heat. Pill bottle attached wit a snap pin with 4 1/2" holes for ventilation. :hillbilly: :hillbilly:

Now for a few teaser shots. I mentioned the cobbled together air intake system. In the line of "pictures or it didn't happen", here's proof.

This little issue will be tidied up in the next few weeks with details to follow.

Finally, a teaser of the next "planned" steps related to 12V accessory wiring (along with a few of the parts used this weekend).

Next wrenching installment to come in a couple of weeks

Orientation and placement of blow by discharge was engineered and intended by Mr. T as an advanced undercarriage anti-corrosion device......that and insurance measure for the Toyota Employee Retirement Funding Program's solvency, since heavily vested in kitty litter and Simple Green.

I'm guessing turbo and no, I didn't shake the box....

Mine smokes a bit on acceleration. Well, maybe more than "a bit" but NOBODY tailgates me......:grinpimp:

Having logged 500k in a PowerSmoke over the last ten years, if I even SEE a car in the rearview of any other I'm driving, I grow concerned.

In one of the two forays across town in the VMJ, hit a two lane McDs drive thru, smoking like the cloud maker it is, noticing the kids and passenger (cute mom) of the minivan next to me frantically pointing and mouthing my direction, mom rolling down the window, trying to tell over the cracked headed clattering motori.

Shut it off, hearing her finally say "your car is on fire!".

Not wanting to correct her that it's not a car (she was cute) opting the easy reply "no, that's normal, but thanks"....only to read lips now mouthing "he should be ashamed to drive that..."

At that time, like many others, is when I wish the rest of the world appreciated the meaning of the Mud salute.

Unfortunately not in the cards for the near term. Significant medical expenses combined with a "voluntary" pay cut of 50% going on 4 months now have the budget a little squeezed at the moment :bang:

Think simpler and much lower cost.

Turbo is a longer term "want" though.

Sam,
You can probably find a metal or aluminum can the same size at Container Store at Southpark mall. Might alleviate your flammability concerns.

...via IH8MUD app

I'll give that a shot John. The current solution is a "whatchagot on hand" solution. Plastic worked on the Cummins .... Hoping it will work on the mighty 3B

Great little truck, red, rubber floor mats and left hand drive:beer:

Being LHD is the only drawback on Sam's Cruiser. :hillbilly:

It is in one aspect, I have to park it in the left side of the garage, and our garage is so tight, I cannot get out of the left door and have to slide across the console and get out of the right hand door - or as you would say Charles, the proper door ;)
