Knocked out a bunch of stuff on Friday

-Installed gas tank w/ new sender and pickup
-New fuel hard lines
-Plugs, wires, cap, rotor
-Thermostat and gaskets
-Fan clutch and adjusted belts
-Battery terminals

Once we got fuel primed into the carb, she turned over on the first hit. Pretty awesome to hear the 2F come alive after 10+ years. Sounds great and runs smooth.

Still have a long list to get it road worthy, but it’s great progress.

@RodrigzCrzr The dealer told me last week that those 70 wheels were backordered until January. I’m hoping that only means temporarily out and not permanently gone.

Believe it or not we took this thing for a drive around the hood yesterday. I forgot how much fun a straight shift can be. The steering is very loose and the brakes work but need more work, but we are on the way with it.

The alternator does not charge the battery. I have replaced the fusible link, but still not getting a charge. There is a mystery wire running from the alternator to the positive post that I disconnected at first but then reconnected, but charge light is still coming on. I guess I will pull the alternator and have it tested. Any other suggestions welcome.

Still busting rust, but getting ready to move on to bigger things like suspension and interior.

This may be something as simple as a dead voltage regulator and the VR is easy to replace. You can go OEM or pick up an aftermarket from RockAuto.

Also, if you have an OEM alternator do not turn it in as a core if you purchase a new alternator from a parts store instead keep it and have it rebuilt.

Great work! Enjoy the process and take your time. I brought one back to life that sat for 8 years in PO's garage. Over time I basically ended up going through everything. Sitting for that period of time plays havoc with just about any component with a seal. Start bookmarking all of the various parts suppliers. Most of the best are supporting vendors here. The small victories will eventually add up to a reliable and fun cruiser.

Fuji carb is running fine so far. Some of you have said to rebuild the original. This thing was sitting in the grass for ten years, and it looks wrecked to me. Is it worth it?

I was once of those that said to try and rebuild it. Maybe send these photos to Mark or JimC and see what they think.

Have not updated in a while. I think the advice from @OSS about "pacing" and "avoid burnout" was sound for a project this big. I was getting burned out ordering parts, thinking about what to do next, etc., so I just took the holidays off. I hope, however, to have the thing driving reliably enough to hit an event on the coast in April.

Bearings - packed. Knuckles - done, courtesy of @Bama4door.

Front brakes (rotors, calipers, lines) - done (except Autozone gave me the wrong caliper for driver's side (see how narrow it is?)

The 16s all came in. Brand new, silver, pretty and shiny. They will look good with some new shoes.

And so I will be getting rid of these:

I sourced these 15s from a 1988 part-out. I spent literally hours getting most of the rust off and polishing them while watching football. Not perfect and still a little rusty on the inside. I am not giving them away and I would prefer someone pick them up in Birmingham rather than shipping them. PM if interested.

Full-on Ironman FCP suspension waiting on me.
