You're making my '84 restoration look more like a trip to the carwash! I thought paint, carpet, wheels... was going all in. I'm as interested in watching the progress on yours.

Have you found a good source for Toyota parts - things like corner lights, interior trim pieces, etc? I found the rubber pads for the clutch and brake pedals yesterday - OEM for $8 (for both) via eBay, but that was a bit of a fluke. Most of the parts I'm finding on eBay are straight outta China.

Haha thank you, well i figured i would go as far as me and my dad went with the FJ40 which was just shy of splitting the welds apart. I figured that im going to put this much effort into it then i might as well go as far as i am capable of.

I have actually had really really good luck with the OEM Toyota parts, ive been able to buy WAY more then i ever thought would be available! So i may have went alittle over board with how many sets of everything i bought but im trying to get as much as i can while i can, at least enough to fully restore 2 full trucks. So in the picture i was able every plastic lens from the tail light lamps to the corner markers new, everything but the drivers side tail light lense and the driver side rear red side marker is available still. Luckily i was able to buy a brand new drivers side tail light lens from Thailand, should be here today, it was real in the picture down to the part number so i hope its correct. Only thing im missing is a brand new drivers side red marker lens, so i have to hope i can find a new or really nice used one or two eventually. I was able to buy almost all Brand new rubber seals from toyota, everything but the rear window seal, which i found a guy that says he has some new oem ones, so we wil see on that. I actually got really lucky on monday and won a chrome SR5 grill for $3.25 cents on ebay, in the picture its in perfect condition.

All those parts - are they from an online retailer or just various eBay sellers?

Everything in that picture except the left side trim piece is from ToyotaPartsDeal in the last 2 months. Now i also have 2 new blue dashes that i got from PartSouq that are not in the picture and i got more stuff coming in from ebay. So far all of that in the picture is close to $2500 from toyota, just have to hope my other half never notices all this! :slap: Basically since i never got the chance to buy one of these trucks new off the lot (due to me not being alive yet) i figured i will basically get as close as i can to a new 1983 Pickup this way lol.

There is so much porn in that picture I considered deleting this entire thread and asking Woody to perma-ban ToyotaFan. :flipoff2:
Haha yeah trust me ive definetly gone off the deep end with new parts, i just cant help myself. If i can buy it new then why not? lol. So when are you going to get yourself another pickup @pappy? Ive seen you post a few times now about regretting selling yours.

I get that. I did the same thing with my FJ40. I spent tons of money at Toyota. If it was available, I replaced it.

[sigh]. I need to sell the FJ40 first. IF I happen to come across a clean 1985 xcab then my bank account will be in trouble. Realistically, I will be in the market for a Gen4 or Gen5 4Runner. I love my old Gen1, but getting old~ish has made me appreciate newer comforts.

I don't see a grille in your parts stash. The one that was on the truck is a 2wd piece.

Says the fella that sold me said FJ40 parts. Hope things are well Dan. We sure miss you around here.

I miss you guys as well. I'll be back one day. I still have the house.

Good timing @cruiserdan , FedEx literally just dropped this off in the last ten minutes. This is BY FAR the best deal ive ever got on ebay. this is a $3.25 plus $20 for shipping SR5 grill. I really dont even understand how it happened.

Now you need the chrome headlamp doors to go with it. :)

You're selling your 40?!

Yes, but I'm having pre-sellers remorse. I've been talking about it for 2 years. I'm having issues letting her go. I wanted a FJ40 since I was in high school, and that desire was reinforced over the years. The reality is selling her is the right thing to do considering where I'm at in life right now. I only drove her 80 miles last year. I really need to adjust the stable.

I know i can do some searching around and find it, but if you have a link handy to your 40 build i would really like to read about it. Man i know i have no say so because i havent been around here long but like i tell everyone, dont do it, in my experience it is always a regret to sell any toyotas and very rarely is it a relief. But i do get it, im at the point where is just not realistic to try and insure multiple vehicles i probably put less than a 1000 miles on.

Yeah i thought i was going to get lucky and be able to snag a new set since all 3 variants are still active on toyotapartsdeal but the sr5 chrome ones are discontinued so i just need to check out the other 2 and maybe they will be available, if not then im probably going to have to pay $100 or more on ebay for a set if some show up. Ive been checking every salvage yard in nashville and no 4wds have ever show up here, when i lived in bakersfield ca it seemed like they got 2 or 3 every month. I know that you are retired from the parts world so i hate to ask, but is there anywhere i might not be searching or anywhere i should be looking? Im currently searching Toyotapartsdeal, PartSoup and amayama, these seem to be the most legitimate places with best inventory/webpage. Any information would be amazing coming from a professional. Thank you for any information.

My entire time in the car business was spent in dealer parts departments. We never chased used parts. New ones have been discontinued for years and years.
