1981 FJ40 4 speed tranny with split transfer case. The transmission shaft turns by hand smoothly in neutral. Transmission and transfer case shift between gears easily.

$800 for the tranny and transfer case ($400 each). Offering the bellhousing for $60. I prefer a local pickup, in Southern California.

Might want to remove the entire top cover and show condition of internals of that trans.

To me it's actually easier to pull the entire top. Just have to be sure the small paw fits into the lever for the reverse gear. Top your dealing loose springs and steel balls that can get lost. Or worse fall inside the transmission. Being an 81 do you have the mileage when it was pulled? 8/80+ odometer have an extra digit to read up to 999,999.9. How long since it's been pulled? Is there oil still inside? I like leaving oil in and spinning gears on loose transmissions.

I will take the bellhousing Martin. And I could be interested in the trans/ tfr, but won’t know about that for a few days.

Why wouldn't you just hang it like all the earlier FJ0 H42s?

yes, it can be, my comment is that the crossmember is a somewhat rare piece and now it's useless

Mark, are you still interested in the 2f bellhousing trade for the upper and lower oil cooler pipes? I tried your office phone 2x and it never went to voicemail. I can make it out to your shop today around 1:00-2:00
Per my signature line, I am out until Monday 😊

Are the L brackets on the frame for the crossmember available or lingering on the frame unused? If so I'd buy those if they are in good shape.
