I’m selling a 1980 FJ40, imported from South America. It’s foreign specs, metric. It’s partially renovated, frame off. New Weber carb, new tires, new battery. Probably needs a new alternator (engine doesn’t stay running and idles really low) and a tune up. Mostly stock parts. No rust issues. I don’t have the know how to keep this truck going. Asking 22k, but will other offers.

Help your cause by taking photos of the under carriage/ chassis, knuckles, floor boards. Rear sill is nice and clearly defined. GLWS

Vent windows on the doors on a 1980? Did the SA market have those or are the doors from an earlier year not original to a 1980?

Not sure. Perhaps the Latin American market still had them into the 80s…

overseas had vent windows up until the last 40 series were made

there are a few things that are not making this a 1980
more like a 1982+

how about a pic of the vin plate and frame #?

Thanks. I'm kinda partial toward the vent windows since it can help with ventilation in the cab. I wish all US models had ventilation windows.

The dude who sold it said he thought it was an 80. :)

Here’s the VIN plate. I tried looking it up but came up flat. Decided to just go with what the dude said

is there a plate on the driver door jamb?
what does it say on the title paperwork?

plate says an H41 trans, very low first gear
wonder if a PO added the heater
looks like it still has front drums
direct drive fan
it may still have points

GLWTS

No plate on the driver side door. Title paperwork says 80. Heater does still work. And first gear is super low. I can start it easily from a dead stop in 2nd or even 3rd.

Based on that VIN, it’s a March 1984 build. Whatever it is, it looks like a sharp rig at what seems to be a fair price.

Nice truck!

Front disc or drum? Hard to tell.
