1979 body tub from China

I know that the full teseven tub was right at 14k delivered to port of Baltimore but that was 3 years ago and prices and exchange rates have dramatically changed.

An Aqualu 3/4 tub + cowl / firewall section ( with their windshield frame ) would be 7335.00 plus shipping from British Columbia, Canada. Your steel windshield frame won’t work on their cowl and will need glass cut to fit theirs. I found a shipping quote from them back in 8/20 for 735.00 to Denver. I believe it would be considerably more now.

@Dunkane Is Lekma still an option in France? I recall that they’ve often been confused with Teseven in the past.

The doors I (City Racer) ordered are now at the port in Oakland. I expect it'll be ready for pickup in 2 to 3 weeks, so it's finally here.
To address the original post, I wouldn't recommend buying a 1979 tub from there, because I don't believe they have a 1979 or later FJ40 in their yard. The cost for a tub will almost certainly exceed 10 grand after you pay for the customs clearing charges, port warehouse fees, 25% duty on goods from China and so forth. The quote they provided wouldn't include any of these.

If I went with Aqualu I would go with a cowl also. Actually, I need a new windshield anyway. I’m in Kentucky so shipping is going to be probably 1100.00 + is what I’m guessing. I haven’t actually talked to Aqualu yet for firm numbers.

That’s kind of what I thought. That’s good to know that they don’t have a 1979 tub to go from. That could be a real problem from a quality fitment point of view. I guess my next step might be to contact Aqualu and Gozzard to get actual numbers. As an aside, if I go this route I have a lot of body panels that I’ll have to sell to recoupe money spent already. Live and learn I guess.

I just heard back from Gozzard. They are updating their price list for their body parts and tubs. If they go up substantially I decision between them and Aqualu might be made for me. Not really wanting to pay crazy money for a fiberglass tub.

Seems like you were on a path already. Practice welding while you heal up your shoulder and then get to work ;)

Yeah. I get the sling off in a couple of weeks, but still restricted on lifting with that arm. Shoulder was seriously jacked up. It would be a good time to get the bracing welded on the tub and start cutting things out too. At least I would know if it’s at all salvageable.

I have had both shoulders repaired. Follow PT instructions exactly, very important. I think it was no lifting, only PT, for the first 8 weeks for me.

@steveola check out this thread regarding Gozzard tubs. Maybe this guy got unlucky, and I don't want to trash Gozzard because Mike seems like a good dude and I love that they have an option on the market for us. But If I got a tub like this, I would've been displeased.

Yup, that’s what it is for me. This is my first time through this and hopefully the last. Man, I can’t imagine doing this twice! That is no joke!!

Wow. That seems to be a lot of cutting and a lot of reglassing for a brand new tub. Looks fantastic at the end but it looked like a long road.

Well I just heard back from Gozzard. Their prices went from roughly 4500.00 for a tub plus shipping to 8500.00 with shipping included and an 80.00 duty. Unless their prices have gone way up, that’s close to 4 grand for shipping. No thanks. Not much of a value prospect at this point. Haven’t heard from Aqualu yet but it has to be better than that.

I would not hold my breath on aluminum. I surely want to know what Aquala tubs cost today ?

After rereading my email, the 8500 is for just the tub. Holy cow! That almost twice the last listed price. Big no for me. I might do better to find a supplier of Aqualu that has existing stock, but they might be cost prohibitive too.

I went on Aquala and they have pricing there. Seems the FJ40 tub is ~ 4000.00. Perhaps the "new" prices have not caught up with them.

For my 1979 the price I saw was 4547.00. So that’s still a fairly decent price. I don’t know what happened to Gozzard.

Perhaps it is even worse for fiberglass sourcing. I do believe everything is affected.
