That’s what it looks like. Honestly I would rather pay roughly 8200 for an aluminum tub and cowl than 8500 plus crating and shipping. That would put way over 10k most likely. If you really wanted fiberglass then that’s cool, but to me it seems Mike is pricing himself out of the game.

Looking for an opinion on a tub I currently have. It's from a 3/82 US market FJ40. Had this thing sitting on It's frame in my RV area for over ten years. I have zero $ into it so that doesn't factor in. Not looking to restore and flip just make a decent tub to install a H55F in. What is the cost of front floor pans, rear sill and just the back corners. Possibly rockers under the doors. Everything else would just patch in new metal.

Believe I can get a bonded title without a problem and biggest thing I would need to source is the front springs. Have all the parts already. Hated to start a new thread and this one still to be covering tub costs.

Looks pretty good to start with. Much better than mine. I would have that media blasted and see whet you have. If you decide you want to sell let me know.

Was this tub originally from Arizona ? I know the later models rusted much greater than early models, but, Arizona usually takes many years to get rust like that.

I bought it in the Phoenix area but it came from Florida. From the odd spots that rusted I believe it was used on the beach and places sand was cleaned out it rusted. The lower rear corners are rusted but above them and just in front of them are solid. Wheel wells are in good shape. It has advantages over my 79 tub. Made for collapsible steering column, catch for the twist knob on glove box door and dome light switches on the A pillars. Frame uses the transmission crossmember and has the bracket on the torque tube for the hand brake cable going to the rear axle. Because of his HOA seller was in a hurry to have it gone so he didn't remove the fuel tank. Skid plate for the tank is also there and used to secure the hand brake cable. Add in the 10/82+ transmission hump and with all the right pieces the H55F will just bolt in.

I have a few pre 1/79 cruisers with solid rear sills. Those look like they would be very complicated replace. Not sure what's involved in the 1/79+? That may help make my decision.

I kind of thought it was from a more "rusty" area. You're choice was good as there are many pluses to have this tub at all. You are a smart man.

@Dunkane Is Lekma still an option in France? I recall that they’ve often been confused with Teseven in the past.

yes, still a good option :)
www.lrc.eu is one of his main client, and happy with their product

I just sent them an email about their body tub. They look really good.

I’ve been away from Mud for quite awhile and just recently rejoined. I’m considering CCOT for body panels, maybe even a tub. Sounds like someone recently had a major issue?
I bought a whole load of body panels and had no issues at all. They were great with any questions and very helpful. That said one of the guys here on the forum got a jacked up tub and they wouldn’t stand behind it. I guess the take away is for parts and panels okay but definitely not for a pricey part like a tub. Just not worth the chance. What year do you have. I’m thinking of going full tub from somewhere ( not CCOT), so I might be able to save you a little money. I have a 79 so that’s what the parts are for.

I have an 83 fj40 and am leaning toward a half or 3/4 tub. I’ve done the panels on an 82 I restored years ago, lots of work but doable and came out nice. Does anyone have contact info on the member who had trouble with his CCOT tub?

You might do a search on tub fitment issues. It’s been a bit since I saw it. Btw, I’m checking into a tub in Belgium. We’ll see if it’s a go.

If you decide to go the parts route PM me and we can work it out. I have everything to pretty much build a rear tub.

Post a picture of your transmission hump. 10/82 it changed and most likely 3/4 tubs will not reflect the change. This shows how the hump is higher on more than across the A pillar.

Hi John
What changed from 8/80 to 1983 that resulted in the tub modification around the transmission hump?

10/82 the H55F five started in some 40 series, because of that the front of the hump and inspection cover changed shape. This was in in all models including the long wheel base which never had the H55F option. The 1/79+ A pillar was harder to replace a 3/4 tub. The change in the hump adds to that.

The H42 and H41 still used a cast iron top plate. The H55F started 10/82 and those the top cover was made out of aluminum. While not as shinny this is what the top cover for the H55F had in the 40 series.
